Imagine's Day Out

Many thanks to Paul for a day out on Imagine........a great fishing platform......on what turned out to be a bumpier day than expected.

Boy, was it cold this morning ?? !! [ shorts not possible when I went to get papers at 7!].......and the hot coffee appreciated when we loaded the boat at 8.

All still in the harbour but a bit of chop in the Swash and growlers on the horizon.

Bait??....I thought.....'We'd be lucky!!' ......fresh mackeral , end of October [so had a cool box of frozen at the ready........but no worries ........plenty at Peveril.......all stuffed with sprats!!

So .........off to the Banks to reconnect with some rays...........and found AWOL already in situ.. Anchored up in the vacinity.......but could not match their success, finding mostly dogfish and a bonus big bream for me. Tide eased , bites increased but not the success rate. Rather than re-anchor the flooding tide , we decided to try inshore. Soon into a good undulate ray, but it proved to be a singleton !!

Last move , to final mark , provided the most hectic fishing,,,,,,,drifting over the ledge we found some medium - size [but feisty] pollack to finish our day and fill the cool-box with some filletable fish!

Great day out Paul..........tell me when you are free to target the whiting next??

Many thanks,

Alun.

Thanks Alun - have to admit to feeling a bit jiggered at the moment...after an early start from home, down at the club at 0700hrs to row out to the boat..yes it sure was cold.

The state of the chop in the swash and around Old Harry was unexpected - (best described as truly snotty) and kept our speed down to less than 15 knts - even so getting uncomfortable at times.

When we got into bait collecting, we certainly started off well, feathering up a dozen or so mackerel off peverill ledge -also joined by two other charters -it was here that we had the first pollack mixed in with gars and mackerel. So good to have fresh bait.

After that, the banks this time round were easy to anchor and fish - but I failed to get anything decent, just more mackerel, and dogfish, but nothing was in great abundance even though conditions looked really promising!

Inshore for the flood, and Alun gets a decent bite and he jokes "10lb undulate", and sure enough up one comes...

Then the last half hour or so drifting at peverel again, in a flat sea and warm sunshine.... lots more Pollack - decent size and another mackerel or so.

All in all we did OK, though not in the target species, tried a few new spots (to me)

Boat worked flawlessly, didnt break anything, back on the mooring by 1800hrs.

Me

2 Doggies = 2pts

4 garfish = 10pts

4 Pollack = 25pts

4 mackerel = 5 pts

4 species caught - bonus 20pts = total 62pts
