Paul D
Took Simon ( Britboard ) out to hunt for a cod this morning. 8AM launch from Lymington and not a breeze. Flew up the Solent and onto the Car Park. and down with the anchor. 2 rods each out as the tide was just starting to flood. Clouds start darkening and one of the charter boats mentions the wind has picked up. Ok where we are - no wind .... yet ...... 1 minute later and the sea is looking ruffled and there is wind whistling - Easy F4. Sea starts building and as the waves were starting to break ( now around 15ft high - as measured by one of the charter boats ) , decided it was only going to get worst, so upped anchor and fled over the bridge and then sea became calm enough to do 21-22 knots all the way to West Lepe. Called PJ up just after crossing the bridge and apparently he is fishing on Christchurch Ledge and barely any wind there. Sea there is fine. I am certain he is winding me up. But no it was true. West Lepe was not much better. Wind picked up ( no where near as bad as the Car Park mind ) and then it started raining and the last straw was dragging anchor and hurtling past another boat out there ( If you are reading this apologies for going by so close ! ). Decided fishing was no longer much fun so back to the slipway ( where we met Andy - skipper of Lady Jane ) and off home. Fish for the day 3 or 4 dogfish

Why is it that whenever the sea looks flat there is always a single wave that comes out of nowhere and takes everyone onboard by complete surprise? Paul now has the honour of joining the 520th orkney airbourne division. Those E-tecs make quite a bit of noise when the prop is completely clear of the water and on full throttle I think Paul decided to call it a day at the point when there seemed to be more water inside the boat than out. I was fortunate enough to be sitting in the cuddy when another surprise wave hit us beam on and most of the water seemed to land directly on Paul. Fishing not so clever with nothing but Doggies but great to out all the same. Roll on Dec and Florida. Simon L
