Here is the latest Inshore Waters forecast.

I am going offline now on the assumption that the comp is on, but most will be in the Harbour.

If for some reason we do cancel, could someone please let me know by phone!!!

Also, when the final nod is given, perhaps someone could inform the gazillions over at WSF to try and get some attendance from their guys too.

Thanks

Tom

I would also like to add my thanks to all the organisers and helpers, particularily the hard work that PJ has put in to making the event a resounding success, despite all the weather gods attempts to prevent this.

It was good to see Spike Spears as well.

Rob's prize wind were well earned, I know he was not expecting quite that much !

Well done to everyone who put in the time and effort to arrange, organize and compete yesterday.

It wasn't very warm in the harbour, it was so cold that my cooker took about half an hour to fry up the bacon!

Respect to those who ventured out past the chain ferry- not much fun by my reckoning.

And again, well done Rob!

Well done Rob, and everyone else that managed to get to the prize table!

George and I fished on Court Jester, with Neal and his regular crew John. We had planned to try for conger and blonde ray round the back of Anvil, but the seas were a bit big, and it might have been a bit nasty with the races round there.

Instead we fished the Spoil Ground (till the dredger circled us twice, dropping something brown and nasty into the water, then a few marks on the edge of the Slate Beds. True Blue was a mile or two further out at times. We had pout to 1lb 10oz (only eligible fish!), whiting to 1lb 9oz, one lone scrawney doggie of 1lb to George, and a solitary (undersized) cod of 9lb 6oz to me (well netted Neal!) my first real one for over 26 years.

We rolled and bounced all day, and in anything smaller, or if the wind had increased any more we would have aborted the trip. The trip back was interesting with seas on the starboard stern quarter, but the Arvor 25 is a big boat, Neal knows it well, and throttled back to get us home in one piece.

Thanks again Neal and John for letting us play!

Well done Rob and everyone else who managed to win prizes. - and enveryone else that either helped organise or just went out and gave it a go in less than ideal conditions.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing........... it was fairly obvious that the sensible thing to do was to fish for flounders in the harbour

But - having planned to go out - go out we did. We followed True Blue out through the Swash and his wake flattened off a lot of the waves. Mindful of the passengers on board, I wanted to just see if we could fish off Ballard somewhere. It was better at anchor than expected considering the conditions, so decided to give it a go offshore a bit further......... see Mikes report above.

A very interesting day - very windy - very cold and couldn't find the target species of Dogfish - normally plentifull, Pout - only 1 sizeable of the 3 caught - and no Congers.

Mike caught a nice Cod, which bodes well for the Christmas Cod comp. - but not big enough to get him amongst the prizes. I had a regular stream if Whiting up to 2lb - again not big enough to count for prizes - but fantastic to eat.

The trip back in was the worst part of the day - the wind and waves causing the boat to tip and slew rather violently at times, with no way to avoid it other than try and ride the waves and slow the boat using the throttle.

Getting back in to a flat calm harbour made me wonder if the battering and bruising was worth it ............well...... yes it was, we were probably at the limit of what was fishable given the wind over tide conditions - and the fact it was easterlies but I am glad we gave it a go and had a very enjoyable day.

Flounders next weekend................................

Hi All

Well done all 103 anglers that fished yesterday and especiallly to PJ and all his sub committee who worked so hard leading up to the event, and during a long day yesterday

It is a testiment to a lot of hard work to see a rescheduled event run in marginal weather go so well.

Better weather would have seen more anglers joining in, but not even PJ can change the weather.

We would have loved to have fished outside with the big boys, but as it was Alfresco's first trip decided that discretion was the order of the day and the Harbour was a safer bet.

I am sure with more miles under the hull we would have gone out further and at least tried at anchor.

we settled for a mark at the top of the harbour and ten flounders [most under 50%]

Well done to all that maneged to get to teh Prize table and especially the overall winner on an excellent flounder of 3Lb 3

firstly my apologies to everyone for not being able to make the evening; is it just me or have I have a 'domestic' call everytime I have been out fishing this year?

I would like to echo the others comments re the overall organisation of this event - a huge thumbs up for the efforts put in my all and of course PJ represents the team here in success and failure!

I would also like to thank my crew member for actuallly catching a fish - which enabled at least one photo on the day. That it went back was testament to it's size!

Wishing everyone a great family Christmas and looking forward to better weather and trips in 2008

lol - Know the feeling Duncan. My crew member also caught the solitary fish on Neo and it was that small we forgot to take a picture of it ( 1lb ).
