great white
At last a bit nicer weather and a chance to get out and try the boat properly With Sam working and Wendy still full of cold, we were able to invite Paul and PJ to join us for a trip across to the needles area that they know better than I do. Due to the works Christmas do on Friday the meeting time was a sedate 0845. it did not take long to organise and we arrived allongside Dawn Raider for a chat at 10.00. JP reported just Dogs but we still decided to anchor up and give it a go a couple of hours doggie bashing then out further to the spoil ground, for ebven more dogs It was turning into a day for converting squid to LSD We all decided to try a spot of eel bashing so off to a wreck I was very pleased to go straight to it on my old numbers, but need to remember the other skills involved and learn how my new boat lies on wind and tide. we anchored twice before eventually turning on the tide to fish near the wreck. The GW would have been effected by the tide muck quicker. While we were "On the turn" Dan had the best fish of the day an undulate ray of 14lb 4oz [First Specimen over the gunwhales] Then as we eventually turned we had 3 small congers Paul D had the first to the boat followed about 1 min later with my first. they wer only small fish and seemed to be very hook shy as we droppped quite a few bites Nice to be able to report a full trip on the boat, she performed very well, thanks to Paul and PJ for joining us. CU on the water again soon Merry Christmas Charlie
JIMBOB
well done chaps on getting a few, we saw you coming from a way off, Alfresco has a presence about here ploughing thew the sea towards you! We drew a blank for the cod and only managed dogs and one small spotted ray,I also noted apart from the lack of cod was not a single pout or whiting not even on a light rod chucked out which was odd!? Corky and I set of for an early start, 6am and were fishing just after 7!! only had a short trip due to the tides and only just scrapped up the run at 12.30 loosing a bit of my prop in the process! Sinbad
There's been a (nice?) blue trawler out in the bay every time I've been out... Alun and I wonder what he does with all the LSD......? Fishmeal???? Last time we fished just offshore of him, we couldnt even get any bites from anything, not a pout or dog... Happy Christmas to all grumpy old men... Paul
Paul D
Picture of Dan's Undulate Ray attached. I had a great time fishing on Alfresco. Now have the dubious pleasure of catching the first Dogfish to the boat and first Conger ( only just after persuading Dan to net my one rather than Charlie's ). Dan's Undulate Ray was the best fish of the day. Great boat and seemed deceptively slow steaming back from the mark until we went back out onto the deck in the harbour. I am sure there is going to be plenty of competition for those specimen fish in the forthcoming season.

great white
It was great to be out again, and good to have you both onboard You are welcome to the first of many dogs Paul but fancy sneaking the first eel while my line was tangled in my second rod and the eel on the surface behind the boat We must try again after I get used to anchoring the boat. Dan's ray was the highlight but I think we all had a good trip. Lovely to be able to sit in the cabin and chat as we steamed back in the dark at 18 knots + Roll on next time Charlie
