Paul D Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Jones Nets Fish of a Lifetime ..... Jones nets 'fish of a lifetime' By Echo Reporter Alun Jones with 18-8 bass A SUPERB specimen bass, which is one of the heaviest ever recorded from the Dorset coastline, was the highlight during the Poole Dolphins SAC open flounder and cod boat competition. Alun Jones, who is a member of Poole Bay Small Boat AC, caught the huge predator, which thumped the scales down to 18-8, after heading afloat in his own small boat Gastronaught'. Setting out from Christchurch, he was targeting a mark over Christchurch Ledge when the fish of a lifetime put in an appearance. However, it counted for nothing during the competition, which was fished for just two nominated species, cod and flounder. More than 180 competitors entered the event which was supported by the crew at Poole Sea Angling Centre and ABU. It saw some 75 go afloat in their own vessels and more than 100 went afloat from a Poole charter boat. advertisement The fishing was fairly good with 17 cod being returned to the scales along with five flounders over the qualifying weight of 2lb. The small boat section for the heaviest cod was won by Steve Lane with a fish weighing 11lb1oz. ........ Quote
