great white
Hi All well we went for what may be the last trip before the fish depart The forecast was for a brief lull in the weather on a small tide. Alun and PJ accepted the offer to join us in the cold weather and the Plan was to try and start at one of the inshore wrecks then come in further to try for whiting later. To be honest I tweaked my back a bit loading the car so I was a bit concerned that fishing a wreck may be a bit ambitious . and on the way out the already building seas had me change the plans to stay inshore. We anchored at the start of the ebb and there was just enough tide to hold the boat against the wind, fishing was a bit slower than recently but we did have a steady flow of bites [ well everyone but me did to be honest, I could not get a bite most of the day no matter what I tried] The whiting were smaller than of late and still stuffed with sprats, so a lot of bites were missed. We did get two new species on board yesterday, Alun had a lovely little brill and I had my first Dab in years with a 13 oz fish [3 ounces under specimen and Club record size] Alun reports that they both tasted wonderful so thats great It was good to be out in the Cold fresh air, everyone had a good time a few fish were taken for the table a lot were returned to grow bigger and even my tweaked back copped with 20knots of wind and a steady force 5 so the confidence in the new boat and the way she handles the weather is growing. Apart from two charter boats we were alone out there yesterday, CU out there soon in calmer weather Charlie Edited February 3, 2008 by great white

DommyBoy
Glad you had some success guys, i managed to get out for a few hours first thing but how cold was it at 7am when we launched. Fished the ledge for a few hours just hoping for something to get the cold out our heads cos it was bloody freeeeezin! About half hour in the first bite came my way, only a dogfish but probably the first time ive ever been happy to catch one.....that was that really, for the next few hours we got plagued by them but cant complain cos id rather be catching them than blanking in the icy wind. Had 1 good bite that was no doggy but managed to miss it....sods bloody law. Was just happy to be out to sea for the first time in months and give the boat a good blast, the wind was getting stronger by the minute and the sea was getting grottier all the time so headed in about midday. That is that form me for a few months now so bring on spring time! Dom

alun j.
If anyone is fortunate to get an offer of a trip on Alfresco from Charlie, you'll be assured of a great [ White ] day out! What a fantastic fishing platform and super comfy cabin......I couldn't believe how smooth the ride back in was in a pretty snotty sea.....and once back in the calm, I didn't have time to clean all the catch [ so fast!!] and nearly missed 2 or 3 whiting! We didn't see anything coming in on the Charters [ and we did have time to stand and stare!].....but surely they must have had the same size little whiting we found. Top angler yesterday went to Dan, who enticed the better whiting onto one of my ex- Uptiding rods.......and showed patience, focus and perseverence in poor conditions...... quite exceptional in lads of his age!! Well done, Dan! Bonus fish of the day were both enjoyed in Gastronaught's kitchen later that evening............the brill was!, and the dab was better! Thanks again Charlie for the most enjoyable day! Alun.
great white
You are more than welcome Alun glad to have you onboard. Thanks for the message and the PM yesterday Dan was well pleased, he loves his fishing and the uptider and ABU 7000LD he bought off you last year. Really glad that you enjoyed the flat fish, we are looking forward to whiting for supper tonight. If that weather window stays as forecast for next weekend, I hope that Wendy will come out for a short trip on Saturday, [i had better check that we cleaned everything properly ] CU Thursday Charlie
