Coddy
Having gone out today, Sunday, I suspect they might be bouncing around as it was not one of the smoothest days I have known. Still it seems they are getting into fish. Coddy

duncan
Marsel II, AWOL, Alfresco, Court Jester and Phaeton. I'll leave people to post their own catch reports when they return but from Phaeton we managed 2 new pbs and had a lot of fun - unfortunately we had to return early and headed back direct from the Schole after wishing Alfresco luck on their next drift.....only to get a text relating to a certain 20lb fish. At least I now have a target to go at! Fishing was hard and the key seemed to be sticking at it! We had 7 species on Phaeton including turbot for Dave, a pb 40lb tope to me and 4 weavers (inc a pb!). I also lost what I assume was a huge tope; we chose to drift so it wasn't using the tide but simply swam away uptide taking line of a drag set at 20lb for over a minute. The sense of anticipation associated with this fish having been hooked up on serious gear - Gravell stand-up, Penn formula 15 65lb XDS Fireline, 150lb rubbing trace, wire snood to 16/0 mustad circle - became, bluntly, nausea when something 'failed'. Recovering the gear the wire snood was cleanly cut through about 2 or 3 inches above the hook........... Conditions over there on Sat and Sunday were excellent with most of any sea being tide created. Overnight in Braye Harbour wasn't great in small boats as the wind got up and there was a constant swell. The run back Sunday was fine although we were trimmed in a little and had the windscreen wiper running pretty constantly. Mark from Alderney angling was a great source of help and inspiration - thanks Mark. Edited May 5, 2008 by duncan

great white
What a great weekend weeks ago when I posted that I wanted to try and go, I was not sure if anyone would join us and I really doubted that the weather would play along. Leading up to the trip 4 other boats decided to come and the obvious excitment was great. It was also nice to have assistance from others who have been before and several locals willing to give advice. THANKS. I will do a long catch report when I have recovered a bit but let me say that we had many good fish, shared out amongst the crew, we enjoyed all the company and all the good humour over the trip. We would all like to thank Adam for joining us, giving freely of his knowledge from previous trips, when we went Duncan stated that he thought his turbot record was in danger Yesterday afternoon his prediction came true when we netted a fish for Adam that we weighed at over 11 lbs.by that time he had caught three, I had one of 5lb 8oz but the boys although trying were still waiting. Adam had another bite that he generously allowed Daniel to have, a very generous gesture especially when the resulting fish was played and landed to be weighed at braye later at 20lb 7 oz 2nd Club record onboard in one day and a very serious jump I will add more later as I amd struggling with Sam;s Laptop Thanks again to everyone who came or assisted with the trip and those that could not make it but wished us luck Charlie and the Alfresco crew
Manic Moore
Congratulations Charlie, you must be please with a maiden long distance trip to finish with what is rumoured to be a very respectable weekends fishing Gordon
Paul J
I had a great time also and enjoyed the new experience of sleeping aboard. There nothing quite like waking up, having breakfast on board and going straight out to fish. Awol is a superb boat, the skipper and first mate are not bad either. Fishing was tough for most of us but we did manage an alderney triple between us with Turbot, Brill and Bass, plus a load of decent pollock. The biggest thing i caught was about 8ft long and was an orange colour, it took me into the rocks but i manged to lasso it and drag it backwards into deeper water. After a huge battle i released it only to find Charlie caught it again the next morning. We named this brute "Drifter" thanks to Martin and Dean for a brilliant weekend PJ

alun j.
Despite big swells and overfalls in the Swinge and off the Casquets, this was the time I felt I needed to wearing the lifejacket! ...... 2 inches off the water , sitting on a 'balloon' and 2000 tons of ship over my shoulder! Good weekend ...........looking forward to the next one ........esp. now I know what to expect....[ rapid learning curve!]. Thanks to everyone for the good company. Alun. Paul D
It was a fun weekend - beats doing the gardening !! Watching Alun speed off on the "Drifter" was amusing Most enjoyable despite our lack of flatties and it was fun to test out the 8ft solid C rod on a wreck pollack. ( It is much better suited to this style of fishing than to pulling Eels out of wrecks ). Thanks to Neal for taking me over and also I would like to thank Mark from Alderney Angling for all his help and advice plus lending us a car as well and the breakfast his wife made was fantastic. I can fully recommend Alderney Angling for Bed and Breakfast. Now working on going back ASAP to have a go at the Bass.
