Hi, looking for some tidal prediction stuff on the internet for the poole area! anyone know of something??

(not tide charts, but the flow of areas)

or is there a 'rule of thumb' around poole for when the tide flow changes in relation to high / low tides??

Thanks

I know the sort of thing you are looking for - a tidal stream chart for hours either side of LW. Many Ports have them - I wonder if they are in an almanac?

Personally, having spent many an hour racing dinghies in the harbour, you get to know e.g the whych channel flows first before any channel, and where the back eddies are but this basic info is also on the chart of the harbour.

If no one else posts here, I'll ask a few friends at the club, as you say, someone must have this info.

I bought a guide at piplers which shows all the tide flows from portland to poole it is based on local knowledge from local fishermen and from BP oil survey in poole bay i think it was about six quid most usefull .

We use the tidal flow atlas at work for the bay

I can bring a copy to the next meeting if anyone wants a look.

I have one for the channel islands, which I copied for the boats going on the recent trip.

Its available from the HMSO.

I had a chance to look at Toms system and it was very good, I may get a copy.
