How do you secure yours?

I have just fitted a Datatag kit to JoJo. It was quite easy, small glass transducers (like they put in dogs!) are fitted in the engine, hidden in the wiring etc., then larger flat adhesive transducers and fitted in and around the transom.

There are individual stickers to put on the main electronic units (FishFinder, Plotter and VHF). For all other bits and bobs there is a tub of data dots (micro discs laser engraved with the same serial number suspended in a UV reactive glue). So I will apply this to reel seats on the rod and reels, handheld VHF etc. So if you catch any on my lost leads I will be able to identify them!!

I think I will stamp the Datatag number in to the trailer.

Warning stickers are placed on the boat and engine cowling.

All boat, engine, equipment serial numbers, along with datadot and transducer serial numbers are listed on a sheet and sent to DataTag where they are held on a database registered to me. Whats more this is transferable to new owners for a small fee.

Datatag has a good record as a deterrent and also for recovery. Most of my motorcycles have been Datatagged and I have found them good on the admin side. In addition I believe all police forces have the relevant scanners as do most of the port departure points. A good option for boats in general and trailer boats in particular.

Did your insurance company give any allowance for having Datatag?
