i am a bit of a numnut when it comes to installing electronics. I am putting in my Navman 7100 radio, but am unsure as it has a lead for an external speaker and the manual suggests that an external speaker has to be used. I would have thought that it would have a built in one already, but it says that that it cant be switched on with out the external jack plug for the speaker connected. The manual isn't clear, but can any1 confirm that i do or don't need to install seperate speaker?

Hi Dan, you will be fine the internal speaker should work just fine without the external speaker connection. Connect the red to +12v and black to -12v and make sure you have a decent antenna connected before you turn it on and press transmit, leave the large black socket unplugged unless you are going to link it to the gps for position sending on dcs.

If you tell me what gps unit you are running i will take a look at the on-line manuals and advise how to connect it, but you need to check the radio set first to see if it already has a MMSI number already programmed as i know it is second hand. If it has you will need to take it to a navman dealer and get the MMSI wiped to allow you get a new one for your boat or you will be transmitting using someone elses registered number which is a bit of a no-no and illegal.

give me a call if you need any help? 07973 321401
