alun j.
Frey shows the way !! Today was Paul's day on Gastronaut; after I had first [and second] blood with cod of 5 and 6 pounds, Paul took over the cod-hauling and pulled up 4 slightly better fish close to 8 lbs. each. Much bigger tide today than on Weds, with only a short slack to pick up a couple of whiting. Many more dogs and pout just as abundant!. The ebb was running hard, and not being a fan of fishing 2 lbs of lead, so we called it a day early and got back in the Run with plenty of water and home to clean down in the daylight! Osprey
Well done Alun, nice haul. And home in the light as well! This must be one of the best seasons for a long, long time. Wonder how long it will last. Martyn
JIMBOB
Well done Alun, back amongst them again, were certainly having a bit of a cod comeback this year, its really good to see with all the doom and gloom of Declining fish stocks, long may it continue!! Sinbad
Thanks to Alun again for a great day on Gastro... Nope it wasnt that cold - its just the silly hat that gives it away! only an hour into the fishing proper, and I still hadnt warmed up from the wind chill from the 35mins or so steam out from Christchurch... A real Red Letter day for me, as previously I've only had the one IOW Cod... To get four in one session was fantastic..... One weighed on the kitched scales, cleaned, was 8 1/4 lbs. so a good year class of fish, and there were three more of those and two slightly smaller..... Cleaning the fish on the slipway later - a variety of stomach contents, squid (a massive brut probably not one of ours) , hard back crabs, small pout and .. a 18Ct Gold Rolex A variety of rigs were used to the same level of success for 6 Cod, ZIP sliders / 3"tubi booms / 6" tubi booms some with braid straight through some with a mono leader all to pennel and double squid. Aluns view is if the bait is down there on the bottom, then the Cod arent fussy. Only seemed put off by the strong ebb. Good luck to those trying this weekend..
