Zzippy
Hello everybody, happy New Year to you all. I wondered if anybody could please help,I am after a bit of advice. This Sunday I am going fishing in my Kayak around Poole harbour for Flounders, but looking at reports and the tides it doesn't look like it will be very productive. So thought I would take some small feathers or Hoki's with me just incase the fishing was slow and have a go for Herring. I have never caught a Herring but have a rough idea where they are(or should be) near Brownsea castle. Could anybody please tell me if that is a good place and which lures(Feathers)would be best?.The Hoki's I have in my tackle bag have size 4 hooks on.Or are there any special sort of feather rig I should use? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Mark(Zzippy)
TomBettle
Hi Zippy Any of the tiny hokkais work fine. Use a 2oz to 3oz lead, lower to the bottom and slowly (smoothly and steadily) jig them so that you touch bottom each tme you lower the rod. Use your sounder to locate the shoal and expect to get hit just at the back end of the shoal. You'll get a stack of checker Bass too. General rule is fish the edge (the drop off) of the ship channel. I've found the Aunt Betty buoy very good, but all through there will be productive if we have frosty weather. They tend to bite best at the very start of the ebb tide. It will usually fish well for about 20 minutes and that'll be more or less it. Tom
Zzippy
Thanks for the info Tom That was very helpful. Will let you know how we get on.Not too worried if we dont catch as it is really a trial day on my mates Tandem Cabo Kayak.Want to try it out before the boat Flounder match on the 18th of Jan. The only way we could enter on a kayak was to use a Tandem as a boat has to have a minimum of 2 people. Many Thanks Mark

Zzippy
Would this be our kayaking club members? Brownsea Sunday 4th Jan '09 Thats us I am the one at the back.Usually I am on a single Sit on Top Kayak. But we were testing out the Cabo(tandem). It wasnt too cold out there. We had dry suits and plenty of warm clothing underneath. We fished from about 9am untill 11.55am for flounders, not so much as a bite. Then moved to the deeper water marks for Herring.Fished the first 20 minutes or so of the Ebb,saw one big shoal show up on the Fishfinder infront of the castle in about 42' of water. But didnt catch any. It was nice to be out. AHoy...were you the lone angler in the boat fishing for Herring or the boat that went past us on their way back in from the bay? AHoy
Zzippy, We were heading out of the harbour, slowed down to get a good look at you and snap the pics at about 12:45. Two of my crew (son and his partner) are also into kayaking so interested in your setup. Seemed to be a kayak gathering
