AHoy
Alun, According to my Admiralty chart the southern most tip of Portland Bill, as defined by the white obelisk is at Longitude: 2deg. 27.40 mins West Does that mean whatever prize catch it was won't be a club record Close enough to debate the possible GPS tolerances ...... Alan. Edit: just checked again, 2 deg 28 puts you clear of the western edge of the Bill, never mind. Edited March 1, 2009 by AHoy
alun j.
Thanks Alan...........about what I suspected but wondered if it was 'rounded-up' to a full minute of longitude. No monsters , but some good, fat medium size pollack [just up to double figures]. Alun.
great white
Hi Alun I asked last year [ after Dan caught a good mullet at Cowes] but did not get that info, would love to have the exact numbers for the East and West ends of our waters. As to the weekends trip, was it not a charter trip? Nice to read that a few double figure pollack were taken, but judging by this question they may be still west of our wrecks Charlie
alun j.
Hi Charlie, I don't know about 'Charter'; to me it was an 'invite' & a free day out, with only 4 others on board. Looks like Alan, here, has given the exact Nos., so we were just outside, to the west. .........not that a few pollack would challenge the specimen level of your eels !! Good to get out on a nice day. Alun.
Coddy
Went onto Goole Earth and the exact coordinates to the top of the St.Catherines lighthouse are: N50 34 32.13 W001 17 52.12 Portland white obelisk (top) N50 30 47.86 W002 27 24.22 Both the above are in Degrees, Minutes, Seconds Hope that works ok Coddy Edited March 9, 2009 by Coddy
Paul D
So will ratify with the committee but this means Club waters are between the following lines of longitude :- 1 Deg 17 Minutes 52.12 Seconds ( W 001 17.869 Minutes Decimal ) and 2 Deg 27 Minutes 24.22 Seconds ( W 002 27.404 Minutes Decimal ) AGM proposal to put these into the constitution in order ? great white
Thanks Guys Once the committee or AGM have agreed them I will log them onboard Charlie Alun Hell of a nice boat to get an invite on as a private trip. if you are steaming all of those miles you may as well have some comfort. I can not remember what we agreed about such trips last year at the AGM Charlie
alun j.
Charlie, I seem to remember hearing\reading here somewhere that 'private\invite' trips were different to charters and could count for club info\recording. It would help to clarify this as I might get another next month; definitely in club waters, after some plaice.!! Alun.
