djredrupp
Despite forecasts of showers and cloudy skies on thursday, we decided to head out to a little mark off swannage, with the hope of rays, leaving the possibility of bream as a backup plan! Upon arriving at the first mark, the weather was already clearing to a brilliant blue sky, and was pretty quickly followed by a couple of doggies as the end of flood approached. We took the slack as an oppertunity to move, and headed 200m or so, to an area that looked slightly more productive, fishing on the tidal flow between the double high tide. Again not much luck on our target species, but a few doggies (Dad managed two, on one bait at one point!) With the end of the 2nd flood, we again took the chance to move outwards again, to something that looked a bit more interesting on the plotter. As soon as the tide started flowing, finally success! Dad hooked into a big ray at 14lb, which then decided to impersonate a dustbin lid as it was being hauled up! After this, we changed both rods to squid baits (the other was on sandeel, catching not much...). Within 15 minutes, more success on my rod with another Undulate ray, again at 14lb (you cant get much fairer!!) So on all parts, a pretty good days fishing for us! Catching something that bends a rod! Dan (ps... if its not an undulate, please say! ) Edited April 17, 2009 by djredrupp
