Sinbad
Thought this was the cause of the lack of a charging voltage to the battery. Hope the problem has now gone away. Anyone know what could have caused the burn out - old age or senility ? Paul Edited April 19, 2009 by Sinbad
Bob F
Difficult to say what could have caused it. Hopefully it is not because of a problem somewhere else, but most likely it is just a shorted component in the regulator due to age. Fingers crossed. great white
Apparently incorrect polarity for even a short period can cause damage. But running an engine for a period at normal revs, with the battery leads disconnected can seriously overheat the rectifier. I know you were very carefull not to do that when you changed batteries, I am wondering if when your battery was completly U/S it had a simular effect and caused the damage. Sounds hopeful that this has been the cause of your problems. Charlie
