mickburder Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I lost my anchor yesterday, very odd, I think the shackle must have snapped. I have an 18ft Wilson Flyer can you advise what type and weight of anchor I should be looking for and is there a supplier you could recommend in and around Christchurch or Poole? thanks in advance Mick Quote
great white Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Mick I would get a copy of a bruce at about 7.5 kg The copies are usually a decent price, give Pete a call in Quay West Chandlers, I am sure he will sort you out 01202 742488. These have decent holding power, but should be rigged to trip. So that when you get them stuck around the ledge, you at least have a chance to get them back. Charlie Quote
Mike Fox Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) Would recommend siezing (mousing) the pin of the shackle to the shackle itself with either monel wire or a cable tie to stop the pin falling out. Definitely worth checking the shackle pin is still tightly secured every trip, as the wire or cable tie can break. As Charlie said, rig to trip by making sure the shackles goes to the bend of the anchor, and securing the anchor chain to the main eye of the anchor using a weak line or cable ties, so if it's snagged, the weak link snaps, and the anchor just gets hauled out backwards. Studland bay is allegedly littered with anchors from people who didn't do this, and just hauled in an empty chain....mainly yachties to be fair! Mike Edited October 29, 2009 by Mike Fox Quote
