Tom Like you I used to pop in and see if any of the recent posts interested me. Nearest I can see to the old latest posts scrolling window is to click on "view new content" - top right of the page. There's also a static list of recent posts on home and forum pages. Hope that helps. Cheers Clive

Hi all, I need 3 new fitted seat cushions and a fitted boat cover. Can anyone recommend a local supplier - preferably in the Christchurch area? TIA Clive

Have sent PM earlier in case you still have a space!

Hi, I expect my boat is much smaller (5m) than yours but I imagine the theory is the same. The transducer goes right at the bottom edge of the transom (in my case halfway between the centre line and edge) so it can "see" clear of the the transom edge in all directions. It is therefore well down in the water and the water line is not relevant. In my case, as the transducer is to the side and forward of the outboard wake, it is always under the water and works at any speed up to my max 25kts, even though it makes its own little wake at speed. I guess if you have twin drive, positioning might be more of an issue but I don't have any knowledge on that. I expect others will know. Clive

Hi all, my Bramber trailer needs some attention, can't seem to get any spares out of Bramber, plus my boat is stored near Highcliffe whereas I am in Southampton, so not easy to carry out odd repairs myself. Can anyone recommend someone within say 5 miles of Highcliffe (Christchurch etc) who can service trailers? Thanks in advance. Clive.

I sort of agree with everyone! However I don't think any crime has been commited here. Obviously most of us are happy to take a decent Cod or a handfull of whiting in the Solent. But if I went on a paid charter trip off Essex where the Cod are smaller (actually I did just that as a marine bio student studying the feeding habits of the Cod family), and caught 3 x 2-3 lb Cod for my efforts, I would be totally OK with that. Who wants to go home with nothing to show for a winter day out at sea? They don't necessarily have the luxury of the fishing we have, and if they could not keep anything for the pot they probably would not be that keen to go again. Skippers have to earn their keep. We surely want to encourage anglers to care for the fisheries, which they won't do if they don't go fishing. What they catch / caught that day (indeed what any of us catch / keep) is infinitessimal compared with the daily bye catch and discards from trawlers. By the way, the most interesting catch I had on my student trip (which I persuaded the college to pay for in the interests of my research) was a Cod containing a large slab of cheese flanked by 2 slices of compacted bread. The skipper explained that many of the Cod feed on food discarded by the parked up ships waiting to proceed up the Thames Estuary. Good luck all for the coming season, which appears to be nearly upon us. Clive

Yes I saw that ebay one LS. I got a friend to pop into South Coast and pick me some up. I asked him to get me a 5L if it's better value. He only had

Hi all, loving my new Etec 25, but anyone know where to buy the oil at anything like reasonable cost? Or is there an alternative that will do the job without compromising warranty? Ta. clive

Hi all and thanks for comments a few months back. Just to let you know I did go for the E Tec, and am very pleased with it indeed. One slight puzzle.... when I go to fill the fuel tank before each trip, it doesn't seem to need any! Well OK a slight exageration, but I reckon it uses half what the old Yam 2 stroke used. Clive

Thanks for the replies guys, no one so far saying anything negative. Sounds as if it might be a safe bet. Next problem is my daughters boiler has packed up and is obsolete so I expect I'll have to shell out for that before I get anywhere near a new outboard! Clive

Hi all, apologies if this has been covered in the past, but I would appreciate any feedback from Evinrude users. I have an old Yam 30 Autolube 2 stroke and I would like to trade up, partly because I don't have power tilt (Mudeford launch) and partly because the are a couple of small but persistent issues that BHG have not been able to cure so far after several tries. (One is I get an electric shock off the fast idle lever on start up, other is I get power loss when the engine is running at over 50% for the first 10 mins of the day.) Anyway I did the rounds at the boat show thinking I was going to be convinced by a 4 stroke - a friend has a 4 stroke Yam 25 on the same boat as me. However I came away quite impressed by the list of features on the Evinrude 25 E tec. In particular - no maintenance for 300 hrs (that would probably be 3 years for me), self winterizing, instant start when cold, no running in, low fuel and oil consumption, low noise (compared to mine of course!) etc. Anyone running one of these who can give a view? Also I'd like to know how folks have found South Coast Marine at Christchurch who would be the supplier. Thanks in advance. Clive
