  1. Welcome Back Alun, Sounded like it was an experience alright. Bassing's not bad at the moment and the sea's not as rough Paul J
  2. Trev you old fart Happy Birthday Paul J
  3. Jack, Dont know about this Hook in tail restricts swimming less than hook in mouth? i doubt it. As Bass will take a fish either head on or by the side you would need to let the fish get it down before setting the hook, not so good if releasing fish. When we used to freeline sardines in the states, hooking them in the anal section did make them swim deeper so there may be someting in that. I hook them through the nostrils but this needs checking once in a while to check the hook has not become buried. Jurys out on this one but im sticking with the tried and tested Paul J
  4. Put me down, may take Marineboy is weather permits Paul J
  5. Cheers Paul
  6. Re previous topic on the charging system. Went out and got a volt meter and tested the batteries with engine running and there was no increase in the 12. 8 volts i got when engine was off. I think this is the Rectifier on my engine but i am unsure of how to check the output so i can isolate it as the problem Paul J I am now getting in the habit of using one battery at a time instead of running on both all the time

  11. fished Freshwater with Les today Not a bite, very slow and a distinct lack of Boats fishing there today There were a few at the bridge but they and left before the Ebb and so did we cause it was a tad lumpy. Just two schoolies today, one for Les at the Run (mepps) and one to me close in at hengisbury ( joey) Paul

  13. Sunfish
  14. Sunfish seen off Chrishchurch
  15. Planned an early start (7am) to go to the island from Christchurch. Wind was blowing hard so this was delayed and we set off about 9:30. There was quite a chop out so we went to the ledge instead where it was just about fishable. We took several drifts with live joeys along the coast guard Hut in about 40ft but no bites. We did however see a Sunfish which came right up to the boat, took me by suprise! all i saw was a fin sticking up i thought it was a shark for a second. What a strange but beautiful creature. It is considered sacred in hawaii and you will be cursed if you kill it- be warned! Met up with Neo about an hour later and as the tide was slowing up we headed out to xrayish ground and put the hook in. Using live joeys at anchor in a fairly slackish tide ( 6oz weight) i caught 8 bass in an hour best going 6.8lbs, 5.2lbs, a couple of 4.5lbers and some 3's Best session i've had in ages Caught a couple more small ones and ended with 10 for the day Everyone else had a slow day, Les had a couple and neo didn't do that well so it was definatley my day- and about time too Paul J
  16. Nice one Trev I just had a good day myself 8 Bass in an hour! will report once ive collected my thoughts

  20. Will, Lets make a date for a fly only session-my boats perfect for this Send me a pm when your free Paul J
  21. Nice one Will, i was extremely envious of you out there , it looked idealic You need more tide for the bigger fish The down side is that conditions are more difficult as you can get 4 knots of tide running through there. im going to give it a go though Paul
  22. Well a lie in was planned as i didn't have to meet Paul D until 10am at Wick. That didn't happen and i found my self down the Run at 7am as i had a few eels left from the previous week which i kept alive in my fridge with the help of an air pump. Tide was zero so i didn't expect much but had a go with the bubble float which was fun. The Small Bass were breaking the surface as they fed on eels/sprats on the bar. No takes for me so as Extreme Chaos was coming through Run i called them over, gave them some eels and pointed them over the Bar. I left them with Will on the bow of his Boat fly fishing for them. Met Paul at 10am and we headed off in Neo, first stop saw Paul bag 2 Mullet to my None. After getting some Mackerel and some perfect Joey Scad we headed off towards Y Ray (Paul's x ray). Paul then went on to catch about 6 rays to my none- Who's been teaching him? I got a Bass of about 2lb on a Scad, then a Thornback of about 6 lb. We both got loads of Dogs, and small bream and a pack Tope. Best fun was watching Paul catch a Ray of 8lb on his Toy Rod which was bent double for about 15mins, he looked just like Rex Hunt An enjoyable day with suprisingly good fishing- Cheers Paul

  25. Just a quick update for those who don't attend the meetings We are well underway with the preparations for Novembers Open Boat Comp. There is a lot to do which is why we start early. We also to need to secure venues, advertising and sponsorship as soon as practical. This is our biggest fundraising activity as well as being an excellent way to promote the Club. This years event is going to be biggest yet! Weve already got several of the Charter Boats booked in One of the keys to our success in previous years has been the level of sponsorship weve had which provides us with a very attractive prize table. We do need as much help with this as possible so if anyone knows a business that can donate prizes, goods or services we would be most grateful. In return they will be mentioned on the website and on the day, we do also recommend our sponsors to the membership as a preferred supplier. please contact me by pm or email if you can help Thanks Paul J
