  1. Hi No it was Overrun (not registered here) who fished Southbourne last night. He caught smoothhound pups, bream, doggies and pout. He posted a report here: http://anglersafloat.proboards107.com/inde...read=1191539697 (You have to register to view the forum there) Simon
  2. Fished Southbourne Rough mid morning to mid afternoon from my kayak - saw a Raider fly passed - we waved to each other. Was this a member here? Caught lots of a dogfish, pout and a small smoothhound. Paddled up to the ledge tried spinning for a while - no luck although a number of garfish followed my lure to the yak. Fished Christchurch Harbour for a while then headed back in. Lovely day to be out.
  3. Thanks Bob. I use a Pentax Optio WP (review here) There have been a few updates to this model since I bought mine.
  4. Fished Portland Harbour and the Portland area last night (from Balaclava Bay to just past Grove Point) with 3 other kayak anglers. A nice sized conger was caught, several pollack up to a couple of pounds near HMS Hood and a couple of squid in Balaclava Bay. Richi's conger report My squid report
  5. Fished Needles and Hurst area this morning. Only managed one bass which was caught on squid at the Needles. Full report here.
  6. Thanks guys. Next year I'm planning to buy another kayak for touring and fishing. Once she's kitted out I'll have a spare for my missus to use and also for anyone who would like to try kayak fishing.
  7. Fished the flooding morning tide at a mark 2 miles out in Christchurch Bay today to try for early cod and whiting. Fishing in 40feet of water, using mini squid I had lot of dogfish and one small pollack. If anyones interested report with pics here.
  8. Fished a few wrecks near Chesil Cove this morning with Zzippy. Fishing was quiet with only a few mackeral, bream and bull huss making an appearance. Zzippy caught the bull huss which was good size (over 10lb).
  9. Thats good news. I bought a pair of the shorter Solid C's from him last year following recommendations from this board. The plastic screw on the reel seat of one of the rods cracked - I took it back to him and the following week he had a new replacement for me. An 8 foot version could serve me better - should be able to cast a bit further if needed. How much are they going for?
  10. Nice fish. Where did you buy your 8ft Solid C from?
  11. Great White Shark Attacks Kayak Fisherman
  12. For those interested, an article which features this photo.
  13. Fished Poole Harbour entrance and around the Swash Channel this afternoon with Zzippy. Zzippy caught a plaice immediately The rest of the fishing was slow with only bass and gurnard making an appearance - an enjoyable sunny afternoon nonetheless.
  14. Fished Portland harbour today. Drifted and trolled at first. Main areas fished were just inside the southern breakwater entrance (when I ventured outside I ended up surfing over HMS Hood - given the swell out there at low), fished over the landing craft and near the middle entrance. Caught a smoothhound pup, scad, bream and mackeral. Had plenty of bites throughout the day and managed to stock up on mackeral for the winter. Saw a couple of charters out there - one near Balaclava Bay and the other I think Flamer 3 over HMS Hood after it had calmed down a bit (they didn't stay long).
  15. Thanks for that Bob. I'll give it a go when cod season comes.
  16. Have fished around the Needles a couple of times from my kayak. I'm thinking ahead to the colder months - given the Needles are a well known cod mark I was wondering how close to the Needles boats fished for the cod. Are the Needles seen more of a landmark with boats heading some way out from them?
  17. Fished the the Keyhaven and Pennington area of the Solent yesterday with Zzippy. Low water was late afternoon and fished from early afternoon till dusk. Weed was not too bad and our baits remained uncovered on most drops. Bites were slow on the ebb - the flooding tide brought the action and we had bream (up to a 1lb and a half) and bass up to about 4lb. Zzippy got snapped off by something 'big' around a marker buoy. Bream for lunch today
  18. Fished Lepe tonight with Zzippy. Arrived mid afternoon to collect bait.. bit thin on ground but after a while we had enough ragworm for the session. Met another kayak fisherman who was coming back in shortly before we launched (he had been catching bream all afternoon which took all his bait). We drifted around the Beaulieu river entrance for a while - the incoming tide brought lots of weed making it pretty unfishable around the deeper channel areas. Fortunately we were pestered with bream only till darkness and we had enough bait left for the best part of the tide and night (HW about 11). Due to weed, rate of drift and lack of bites over the deeper channel areas we moved closer inshore to fish near Lepe. The fishing got better here and we both caught school bass and silver eel (my dry suit is slimed - yuk); I also picked up a flounder a good pound or so which fought like a demon... flounder make good sport from the kayak and I look forward to catching more. We didn't get any big hitters tonight; no steaming runs from double figure smoothound, bass or stingray but we can dream on () - I'm sure we'll fish there again.
  19. We try to split the fishing sessions with shore breaks if we are fishing close inshore. We can shift positions sitting side on so that helps. Around the breakwater there is nowhere we can land (comfortably or legally) so we literally have to sit it out The fish were biting none stop last night (albeit dogfish and small species) but did provide entertainment and we didn't notice the time pass. For visibility we use navigation lights and headtorches. A fixed white light is all that is required. The kayaks fittings, paddle and clothing have reflective strips and we fish very close to one another. The east water entrance seemed like a good place for boaters to feather for mackeral on their way to marks out of Weymouth. Forgot to add that Zzippy had cuttlefish and squid attack his live bait last night in Balaclava Bay.
  20. Fished Portland Harbour last night with Zzippy one of our choice venues for a 24 Species Hunt competition we were taking part in. Launched from Castletown and fished outside the south breakwater entrance in Balaclava Bay (?) from about middnight till 2.30am. We were soon into pout & poor cod and also picked up pollack close to the surface on float. A few pout went down as conger baits but alas no joy on that front. We hooked up to a large buoy down there which I think marks another wreck near HMS Hood. If thats the case it will explain why I lost a number of rigs. After a stretch of legs on the shore we headed up to the middle (east) breakwater entrance) and fishing just outside there we caught dogfish & more pout and pollack. On the paddle up there a smelt jumped into the kayak so put I it back in as livebait - nothing touched it . When dawn came the mackeral and garfish came out to play - we had a number of mackeral on float (feathering would probably have produced a lot more if we wanted them). We didn't manage to bring any garfish in despite Zzippy having serval hookups. A few hours into sunrise and we hooked up to pot buoys tucked in close to the east entrance. The wrasse had woken up and whilst the pout were still on the feed (loads there) cuckoo and ballan wrasse snatched out baits. We headed back in about 8am.
  21. Forgot to add that the water was very warm long that stretch last night.
  22. Fished Sowley last night with Zzippy from the kayaks. Arrived at launch point (Park Shore) about 7:30pm and launched at low water fishing the tide up until about 1:30am. After drifting for a bit we moved closer inshore to take shelter from the gusting winds and anchored in what must have only been a few feet of water opposite a large white house and settled in for the night. We were probably in a good spot as two boats were fishing near us. We were after smoothhound and stingray. Unfortunately neither were caught although school bass up to 1 1/2lb and a silver eel were taken with Zzippy catching most of the fish. Zzippy also had a good run from something which took a quite a bit of line. The bait was large rag. There was quite a lot of weed about - I guess thats to be expected during this time of year.
  23. Following Zzippy's close encounter with what we think was a blue shark in Poole Bay we launched from Durley Chine armed with stronger tackle. Despite putting out a nice oil slick with chum our big bait rods remained straight for the 5-6 hour session (we were anchored a mile out from Durley Chine). Whilst waiting, we managed a few mackeral and a small bream on the lighter rods.
  24. Had a string of 3 on today 1 mile out from Durley Chine. Thinking I'd found a good shoal I dropped my feathers down again but got nothing after.
  25. Link not working. Here she is
