The transom had been built up with a piece of 1" marine ply so the previous owner could put a 115Hp outboard on the back. So I marked out the a bit to cut away (thickness) so my 50Hp will fit. Then cut away layer by layer until it was the right thickness and fitted the outboard with the help of a friend. Oops the stirring cable did not come out in the right place so cut a bit away and got that through slid the cable through the bit it was meant to go and done up the nut, then I realised there was a bit missing! the link Steering Drag Link Bar Arm Outboard Motor Engine MERCURY 50Hp Has any one got one? Or where is the best place to get one? Tried ebay but the only one there was £3.60 but from the US. Hay that's cheap until you see the postage, you could buy about 20 more here if they were the same price here, but bet they are not? AJ

No, not the type of battery the wife does to you! No, the battery that starts your outboard and runs your lights!. I just got lucky and got a car battery that is a month old for £20. But do I need two? Should I fit a split charge blocking diode, if I need two battery's? Do you have battery boxes for your battery? I have a 50Hp Mercury, does that charge the battery or do I need to charge the battery at home? Fishing over night and I can see you could well need two battery's, if only for safety. Yes, a few more daft questions! But they are only daft if you need to ask twice. AJ

I was looking at the stud, as they only need to be fitted, just before you need to use them. So could stored well and you could also have a spear leg, should one get damaged. But your way is just as good. Its getting hold of scaffold tube I find the hardest. AJ

I have a nice little workshop and a quick cut and drill a few holes is not much. I have just been offered an anchor rope. So what comes around should go around. AJ

I have just changed my Jockey wheel it was working but solid tyers and a bit light for my set up.. It is OK though so any one that wont's it, just pick it up it is yours. AJ

I have a bid on a 7.5 Bruce anchor and it looks like it will go cheap. There is a little snag it is in Carlisle! But all is not lost as I will be going up to Scotland to work soon (doing up a 200 year old farm house. 0w, I need a plasterer if you wont to come?) so I will pick up Bruce on the way as long as it stays cheap that is. I was surprised at how much chain cost. So I bit on and got a Danforth (26" long x 20" wide) style anchor with 20' of chain. I don't know if the anchor is to big or l not but the chain is what I need. If the anchor is to big for me anyone wont an anchor? lol. So it is the rope or is it warp? What type Polly Hemp Nylon or some thing different again? length is around 4 times the depth you intend to fish I get that bit. This will be up to 12 miles out around Poole mostley (this I will work up to), so a look at a chart should give me a some thing to go on.me thinks. AJ .

I have a 17' boat (photo in: IS THIS A NORMAN) and am now looking for an anchor. I am told that the best to go for is a Bruce around 5 Kg to 7,5Kg What do you think? Then how long a chain? I seem to remember a friend had 3' of heavy then 3' a little lighter and 3' of light or it might have been 2' x 2' and 2' I cannot remember. Then there is the rope it's self how long? What type of rope there are some real good soft ropes that don't seem to tangle? There are cheap polly ropes but they seem to float I an told but does that matter? How thick 1/2"? Thinner and it might cut into your hands a bit. Hows that for a can of worms lol. AJ

I know what you are saying but I have just got (still to pick up mind) a Mercury 50 that's a gooden mind £650. May be at worst, the £200 one would be good for spears

I have just been offered a Mercury 50 for £200, but little is known about it it was put in the guys dads shed and was working some years ago. The guy knows nothing about outboards (I am not much better) Just a thought if I got this as well as the one I just got, had it serviced may be there's a small prophet waiting. Or just a big bill? Well it looks like I have any way Mercury 50Hp long shaft but it is a two stroke just been serviced electric start with all the controls £650. But it is up in South Wales, My mate lives there and is going over to see it with his friend who is a mechanic so he will have a look at it first. So all being well "Power in our time" I wont need the oars lol I have taken onboard the three tank bit one out one back and one in reserve Is there away of locking the outboard on the boat or must it be removed?

You are right I should have given you more info. If you look at Is this a Norman (just below on the listing) there is a photo of me boat. I can only go on what I have been told and that is I will need a 40-60hp out board Mariner / Mercury as that is what has been taken of only the one that was on her was 115hp Mariner. I was told to go for a 4 stroke as they don't use as much fuel. and I will need a long shaft. AJ

So I am still looking for an outboard around 40 to 60Hp long shaft 4 stroke.. What size fuel tank will I need in gallons please (I'm English, to old to think like a Euro) Well, if and when good enough and safe enough to do some of the wrecks around 10 to 12 miles out. Haveing not seen many filling stations out there!. So going out 12 miles moving around and getting back with a gallon still in the tank would be good, a little more fuel even better. I have seen some tanks with male electric plugs fitted to them! Is that some sort of pump? I doubt it is, but if you don't know then ask. My Mrs thinks, asking question like this that I will look a prat. But I think I would look a bigger prat going out and then finding out the hard way. AJ
