They look really the business the pilot 4s, but I think I'm not going to get much of a swap for the Shetland! Particularly with a new baby, extending the expenditure on a boat that I am probably going to have even less time to use is going to be unpopular. I would be pretty keen on spending a few quid and getting something like that when the baby is a boy though!

Thanks Rob, I'll have a look. I actually took it to a weighbridge and it's right on the borderline. if you add anchor, bits of gear etc etc it does tip into the illegal towing bracket. Have been meaning to add the brakes (trailer came without), but just haven't had the use out of the boat as a trailer boat to warrant it. Have towed it empty/no engine to various boat yards and launched direct from there. Mentioned it so any potential owners know. Not looking to part with much if any cash really, so we'll see what offers come along. just something required to get me on the water now and again. I have a bonwitco 450 up in Scotland at my mum's place (where i holiday), that suffers the same freeboard issues as the 13ft dory but is a great little boat.

Hi All Haven't been on here for ages, sorry, and here I turn up when i need something! I find myself in a position where i can't warrant keeping my 536 afloat or towing it to the coast and launching it on the occassion or two i might use it takes the fun out of the day (new baby). So I'm looking to swap for simething easier to tow and launch, maybe an Arran 16, Orkney spinner, open dell quay 13 or 15ft, longliner, bonwitco 500, something along those lines, something that can sit in the garden and on the occassion i want to use it I can hitch up, catch something inshore, then burn back home and reverse it back into the garden, all on my own. The Shetland 536 has a break back snipe trailer, (which does make launching really easy in fairness) braked but with shoes removed, and it is in reasonable nick with good bearings, the engine is a Yam 20hp 2 Stroke autolube on non-Yam remotes, and has been 'converted' from tiller to remote operation. Starts and runs ok though, but i think it's over lubing and misfires occassionally. The boat itself is as expected old, but it really solid condition, with solid deck. A good few chips where the anchor has been lifted, but otherwise nothing more than the odd craze here and there. The hull has been painted, but it's a nice job. I am happy to hang on to any parts of the package (ie trailer and/or engine), so what have you that you may swap, could be a small amount of cash either way. I have a few engines round the place so may not need an engine with the replacement boat. To add to the inconvenience, the boat is in Maldon, Essex at my Dad's house. Trailer collected - it's a great thing. It is a break back, and braked, there is a guide underneath where the break happens for the brake cable. It's old but the galv looks nearly perfect and the axle and hubs have only minor surface rust. The bearings are really good, the guy selling put 2 new tyres on and delivered it, for

yer sounds right rob - the old catalogue (and it looks the same, with brakes) calls it a tilt frame trailer. Which I assumes was a break back, but could def be something else. Well I think the saga of the trailer may be over...... Just bought this Snipe trailer (I think a break back) model 15001 and collecting on Saturday http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230858721872?nma...&orig_cvip=true Anyone got one of these, or experience of one? I am sure I will need to do the bearings and brakes, but wasn't v expensive so there's room in the budget to do so. Importantly the chassis looks still good. What I really want to know, is can you get sealed bearings as an upgrade for an old trailer, or are they likely to be the wrong type of bearings? Also are hub washers worth fitting? Thanks all Will

the other option i have is a rollercoaster 2 trailer, which is rated at 860gross 600kg net, whichis about 100k lightfor my boat. it needs brakes re rigging etc and it's cheap enough fo me to afford a new axle rated 1.3t. Is it mad to start thinking like this? Thanks again Will

good shout wedger - looks like the axle is simply fitted with U clamps, so could probably be moved back a bit. It's not local, 2 hours drive away, so I kind of think if I buy it, I buy it!

Not quite 'boat talk' so sorry, but there's no trailer talk section! I have found a decent trailer at the right price for my boat. It's a Rollercoaster 1.3HE, which apparently maxes out at a 4.9m hard boat (longer for rib) - mine's a Shetland 535. Does anyone know if this is a suggested maximum with a margin for error, or if there'd be a real issue towing a boat 45cm longer on it? Many thanks as ever Will

Hi all I have been let down by a local dealer who I agreed to buy a trailer from, gave credit card details, and when I came to pick it up after they were putting new brakes, hydraulics etc in 'there was a problem with it' (or maybe they sold it to someone else for more, it;s not in their yard anymore!) Unfortunately in between doing the deal and finding out, I sold my slightly older trailer! So i now need something braked that will take a Shetland 536, total boat and engine weight just over 700kg. Hi all Just a note to say I'm back on the forum. I see a few people who were on here years ago when I last was who may remember me. I'm pleased to be back on the water. No longer a Wilson Flyer man, that went years ago. Literally just bought a Shetland 536 which I am keeping at Cantells Boatyard in Newhaven. Only equipped with a 10hp honda at the moment, I intend to upgrade next year. If anyone is planning to upgrade their engine and has a reasonable 50-70hp to sell let me know. Also I'm after an aux, a bracket, any electrics etc. I have to say on the first trip to sea this weekend, 10hp wasn't as painful as it sounds!! So, to business - where are the fish around Newhaven?!
