  1. Mike, Don't forget my old ( tatty but works ) radio is all yours. Just needs the power lead connection sorting out.
  2. I watched Spooks and forgot the program was on ! Not all lost though as it is available here for 7 days. Future Fish
  3. Good idea Paul but how do you hold onto a 60 lb Conger - I don't think Helen would let it anywhere near the boat ( wishful thinking on my part )
  4. Future Fish You can stream this live form the web if you want.
  5. Adam, I like the genius part - if only I were so good at the fishing ! Hopefully Charlie's spyware problems will be resolved now ( there was even more on his PC than you had Adam ). He is still having problems sending mail via NTL - but I suspect their e-mail is the problem ( they are upgrading it apparently ).

    Xchurch ledge

Hail the X-Ray - Helen got her thornback there. Personally, I have had more luck on the ledge. Interestingly X-Ray is marked on my GPS as Y-Ray as I couldnt be bothered to change the typo ! Dan, we often ( most times) go out from Christchurch, so when you are looking to go out, post a message on the forum and you are more than welcome to tag along ( although I have to warn you that following James and Adam out can be perilous at times ! ) Also, I only live down the road from you, so you could cadge a lift to the monthly meeting if you wish. Let me know. cheers Paul
  9. Ken, I think Bob's expanation is the most likely problem. You need to get a solar panel with a blocking diode ( or a blocking dioide for your solar panel ), since they will drain the battery when there is little/no sunlight

  11. Mike, I like the 1 litre of water per person. This is one thing I consider is ( or is easily ) overlooked. Imagine for whatever reason drifting out to sea and not having any fresh water.
  12. Maybe not up to Bob's standards but here is an example Palomar Knot
  13. Adam, I can wait until the November open if you like or pop around to collect sometime. cheers Paul
  14. I still remember Chris Caines telling me I should be fishing with a launce fillet ( after I had put a whole one on ) but not to worry as there will always be the chanced of a bass...... standing next to Rich who within 30 secs of him saying this, just so happened to catch a 13lb bass and who also was using whole launce - spooky or what !!
  15. Agree with the rats comment. We have got some HUGE ones which visit our garden ( I actually caught one in the bird feeder, eating the bird fat - I thought it was a squirrel or cat at first ! ). Even so the whiting remnants are on the compost at the moment.
  16. Interesting dilema. However, how can we say on one hand "If it isn't for feed then leave it to the weed" and then on the other say "Well it's only a dogfish" Surely same applies to dogfish. However, the good news is they are pretty hardy, so surely it is easy to keep them alive ? An interesting fact to ponder over. On the Grand Banks, having decimated the cod fishing by overfishing, some of the boats turned to catching dogfish.... They are now an "endangered sepcies" in that part of the world. Amazing but true. 17. We fished off the end of the group of boats ( boat furthest to the east ). Had more whiting than the other group from what I heard + a bass and tope ( small ). Not too bad at all, shame the cod didn't show.

    Sunday

Fished the gully near the end of Christchurch Ledge today. Late start - launched from Wick at 9:00 AM and had to leave around 2:00 AM due to the big tides. Slight ripple on the water, slight breeze, glorious sunshine - lovely weather for fishing. Fishing was hectic - dogfish city to start with but then as the tide started to slacken we were into Whiting after Whiting - up to 2 1/2 lbs. My friend I took ( for whom it was his first ever boat trip ) did really well and had doggied, whiting, small tope and finished off with a 3lb bass. Not bad for around 4 hours fishing. There was a small flotilla out there, cod hunting. Heard of one caught but also heard they were not catching any channel whiting, which was puzzling given the amount we were catching. Back into the run around 2:30 and I was glad I didnt leave it any longer as the water over the bar was getting extremely shallow.
  19. How did you draw that Bob ? Looks good and I am pleased to report that is the knot I use for most things ( apart from a grinner ? knot sometimes ).
