Mike, one of our Offshore outlaws members is selling this, which mane of interest? https://www.offshoreoutlaws.co.uk/topic/536-vercelli-spyra-fiamma/?tab=comments#comment-7643 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes Mike, the vercellis are a more “continental” fishing style rod as opposed to a slightly heavier UK beach fisher. I would definitely take a look at the AFAW range. This if you can find one won’t be a disappointment. https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/Anyfish-Anywhere-14--GB-FS-Pro-5856.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Happy new year to you all. Let’s hope for a face to face again soon in 2021! All the best. Neil and Leo [emoji476] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Or, I also have an Ian Golds Fixed spool rod which is built around a Zziplex blank. Again, an excellent rod. A little heavier to hold but will handle any fish in any situation. Again if you’d like to test drive that’s ok! Not many tackle shops will get you in a £300 rod on a try before you buy basis. Neil Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi Mike I have two vercelli continentals, a shimano and the AFAW Fixed spool version. The vercellis are excellent rods but probably not strong enough for hauling in a large cod from Chessel. They are super light weight and have an excellent bite registration. Mine will Chuck 8oz leads plus a large squid bait, if required but are better suited to 4/5oz plus a clipped down flapper. You cannot pendulum cast with them for fear of snapping the tip (it probably won’t happen but it always concerns me). However they will take a very good over head thump. If you get a good raft of weed attached to the rig then again proceed cautiously. For heavier continental rods look at the AFAW and shimano. I’d happily send you a vercelli if you’d like to try before you buy? Neil Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You are a generous chap indeed Jim and your efforts are noted and appreciated. Keep it up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’d guess that the lack of cod has left way for the conger to come in and clean up . There’s probably a more scientific reason, but I don’t know it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Jim. It was a shame and defo a big cod. We had had plenty of conger and this was a completely different bite. A big pull down, then slack line. As I reeled into it the line went heavy with a couple of shakes mixed in. Then , bugger, it’s gone. Andy has never caught a cod so just wouldn’t know how it feels. A great day out though with ok company. [emoji1303] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Species and Specimen Comp for PBSBAC 24th + 25th October

It was fine Martin. Boat performed as expected. A slight improvement in acceleration pick up, but revs still 150rpm down and wot short by 3/4 knots. I put that down to possible fouled prop and a slimy hull. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It is classed as recreation though Brian, which is on the governments list of allowed activities. MDL Hamble are open, Hamble harbour master has said the river and Southampton waters are open. I can’t see what the fuss is about personally. I took the boat out for a shakedown test after the fitting of my turbo and it was not an issue. Even passed a borders boat. No questions raised.
