  1. There's a long term solution in there somewhere but it will need a will on behalf of the regulators (which appears lacking) and some time to emerge. Duncan
  2. "I think if we all simply bombard them, they'll have to take some notice." nope I think they will retrench - I would. they have a job to do and have done it. the absolutely last thing to a quick resolution is 'pressure' - and as I have said elsewhere the newspaper article was probably the last straw to any quiet resolution. this now won't help either
  3. I am reasonably happy with my peg too - but it really needs more tide to fish to it's potential........... having now got back home and had acess to my forecasting resources I have only only one question - "Is there an alternate date?" I am seeing a high probability of 40+ knots even in the harbour around midday Sunday
  4. duplicate - damm system
  5. Tom I think you should have replied as a boat salesman in the area. The comercial aspect is important and, as things stand, you wuld have to advise a potential buyer of a 12m + boat that their children couldn't fish for mackerel from it within 6 miles. You could go further and ask if the children were to sit in the tender, but the tender was attached by a line to the boat, would this be alright? These are not things for the courts to decide - the law makers should clarify..... D
  6. see what you mean! however it look like there may be timing opportnuities and it's consistently forecast from the West so we can get out fine - especially with the lack of tide - and play true 'inshore fishing'!
  7. weather permitting Charlie - I don't do flounder! boats fueled and ready.........
  8. glad to hear you are running Charlie! I swapped the props for the pair I aquired last week, and with another monor adjustment I am happy that the boat is usable in this configuration. I am unhappy that I have lost a few knots at the top end because I can see you and AWOL beating me to the odd mark next year - but all things considered I hope I can draw a line under this. Mardon were superb in resolving the claim and financials - strong recomendation.
  9. easy one Paul - add the wording to the comp entry form with the option for individuals to decline it. Forward the details to CC after the event. everyone a winner.........
  10. Rich I think you will find PaulJ is already contacting CC about this........ As mentioned on an earlier thread about this there is a certain irony in doing this in association with the open but I am sure we all feel comfortable that we are serving the wider community interests as far as possible for the other 364 days of the year!
  11. if they are bye-catching cod/haddock etc in prawn nets then they aren't going to stop doing so even if they also go fishing for cod with 'cod' nets!
  12. well I need some of this magic stuff - best source? re gearbox oil - just use the mercruiser hand pump to pump it in/up. pretty much a must have service item for outboards or outdrives.
  13. apply (register) for the stickers a combination of 'I support catch and release' and 'the only fish I take are for my immediate consumption' - all leading to I don't need legislation because I already do it that way..........sort of thing. you might want to contact Chris Cains for an urgent supply of the stickers for issue to everyone that enters the Open; except for the slight irony involved.......... the club should certainly post the GIF on it's site given the allignment of interests and objectives - subject to committee agreement of course.
  14. now that looks like a whole load of fun Paul - well done.
  15. Looking very nice Charlie - great lines; sits well in the water. Bit concerned about your speed though - no chance of out running you to the mark now! In fact it look like Awol, Alfresco and Phaeton are all within a knats (assuming I can get the gearing/props sorted again)
  16. Mike, This is actually a great result cod wise relative to the last 3 years Poole Open Cod comps fished the week after christmas. it looks as though there are more fish around than recent years. 3 years ago 9 cod 2 years ago 6 cod last year I think there were 5 similar numbers of rods - 120/160 entries including most Poole Cboats (Phaeton landed cod on all but last year - with PJ winning and I got second by 1/2oz with mine..... ) If you want to land cod - spring and summer offshore is the way to go!

forgot to ask Charlie, are you goin going to start on the next one straight away or wait for the spring?

    Alfresco

    looks over 12m to me.................
  20. oh what a surprise!
  21. downside is a whole boat load of anglers likely to be in amongst the prizes though - Steve's no slouch.......... On the other hand and thinking it out.... I'm seriously tempted!
  22. probably right Martin - I may have to reconsider using leaders; comfortable that my overall gear and hook lengths are appropriate but my mailline is vunerable......... Having lost 2 fish this year to gear failures (one on that mark ) I just hate the uncertainty!!! On the other hand surely it's too soon for Mike to get another fish of a lifetime! inturrupted and forgot why I was editing! Other possibles to consider would be angler fish and common skate
  23. do you mean leader Mike? or snood? either way I would suggest either a club record blonde or huss - both will make that sort of short runs and go both uptide and down, both have the weawithall to severe a leader (tails) or snood. also agree with Coddy but knowing the ground my bet would be 20lb huss. I had 4 blondes and a snake there the previous day............
  24. I trust beer gets a mention too Mark?
  25. I'm not against complexity Charlie - but where it's needed. I won't drift fish strip or live bait on anything other than a helicopter/portland rig and that always seems overcomplicated..... (a simple 3 way swivel 2 foot above the weight link should do the same surely - it doesn't!!!! ) your comment re having the bottom hook shaken out - I have always felt that with any pennel and fish that shake their heads (cod and turbot are great examples) there is a danger that the two hooks can work against each other weakening the hold of both when the fish shakes - this is another thing in favour of the floating pennel.
