I chose the 7th to 11th June as the dates as it is before the main holiday season. The meet is over 5 days, but a few are coming down the day before and some are staying on at the end. Boats are being trailed from Wales, Kent, Lincolnshire and London, with a few local guys joining in as well. I think all the boats from WSF are just about fully crewed now, but a few boats from Pool with crews will be very welcome. First night meet is at the Sailors Return, with an auction of some fishing gear for the RNLI. Moorings are discounted by 10% by mentioning the WSF Meet when booking. Come for a day or more if you like.

Update 19th Jan 08 Well there are now more than 20 boats confirmed that will be coming to the meet from as far as Lincolnshore and Wales. Anyone else that is interested please have a look at the thread on WSF and get your name down on there if you fancy coming along. Weymouth Meet June 2008 There are a few crew spaces available too for those that do not have their own boat. Get your name down on this thread with the dates that you need a space. If you are a boat owner with crew spaces free then please use the same thread. There is a 10% discount on launch, mooring and trailor storage fees for the meet if you mention Worldseafishing when you book your mooring. Stay 3 nights and the 4th night will be free too! After a couple of good trips to Weymouth over the past couple of years for a few days at a time I am trying to organise a meet there next June between the 7th and the 11th. I posted on WSF to see how many would be interested and got a good response. My 640 is fitted with the Mariner 100hp. It is based at Newhaven so I do not have much slow speed pottering, apart from when wreck searching, but my average consumption with myself and (usually)3 crew is around 1 1/2 ltrs per mile (3mpg)

My mate Ray that regularly comes out on my boat swears by these. He has used them wrecking and inshore trolling and I have to admit he has had some good fish on them. A bit on the expensive side for a snaggy wreck though if you lose a few!

With any waves / swell of more than about 4-5ft behind you it is a matter of constantly keeping the boat at the same speed as the waves or it tends to turn the boat sideways on to the next one if too slow or being hit sideways by the one you have just come off the top of if too fast. Does that make more sense?

My experiences of my 640 are on the link below: Pilothouse Problems I would also echo what others have said on here re handling in a following sea. It can be a real struggle sometimes in a big sea to keep in a straight line without broaching. On a normal day however she handles brilliantly and has a fair turn of speed, up to 28kts with a 100hp mariner 4 stroke. Overall I have been happy with the boat. I think all boats of any make and model are a compromise, you will never find everything perfect with any boat. If you decided to go for the Quicksilver I can thoroughly recommend Boating Mania in Upminster, their after sales service has been superb unlike reports I have heard of your more local dealer.

Sorry that I have done this before, but I would just like to say a very big thank you to both Rich and Mark for giving me so much help and a warm welcome on my recent visits to Poole. I towed Sea Mistress down from Kent on 5th Nov for a recce before the Open and was shown around by them on Nipper. Mark kindly offered to store the boat for me at his house to save me taking it back to Kent and then down again the following week. While it was there Rich even gave it a clean up and flushed the engine for me. On the day of the Open marks wife even got up to make us a hot drink and sausage and bacon sarnies to set us on our way at 6am. I was unlucky in the comp, losing a couple of good fish which more than likely would have got me in the prizes and then failing to photograph my 2lb 9oz Bass which would have done but enjoyed the day all the same. Unfortunately we did not get back to Weymouth slip in time to help Mark retrieve Nipper on to his trailer, which I felt really guilty about after all the help he had given us. Many thanks to both of them and the other club members we met on the 5th. I will be down next year for a few days and hope to meet more of you then Terry

Congrats on the Bass and I have also learned an important lesson, never assume that someone will have caught a bigger one. My bass was 2lb 9oz but I was sure that someone would have caught a much bigger one so did not bother with the photo etc as it would have meant towing the boat back to Poole from Weymouth and then back to Kent. Oh well theres always next year!

I was up at 0145 with a 160 mile drive each way to follow. And to cap it all it looks like I missed out on the best bass with my 2lb 9oz effort because I was convinced somebody would have had a bigger one, so did not bother photographing it, doh!
