  1. That's it Rob, thanks all, something new to add to the species list !
  2. It's the same beastie in both pics, suckers at both ends. After prising off the Ray it became shorter and fatter
  3. Please see below attached to an Undulate and subsequently removed. It's not a Lamprey but I'd be interested to know what it is? Thanks J
  4. A boat load of Dogs and 2 Smut pups, but a nice day out all the same. Only just read your second post - I didn't fish there went to my usual haunt further out and north towards Ballard.
  5. Wondered how you got on Lofty, unlucky with the Bream but a good selection of Rays, lovely day out there today - I'll be trying my luck tomorrow with Squid & Mack. Cheers J
  6. No worries Rob, nothing under 12", filleted mine, although whole seems to have been more appropriate.
  7. Thanks all - a few more pics from over the weekend, (not mine) a couple of lunkers. Steve's: note hair rigged Southbourne Plaice! Rob's:
  8. Thanks Rob, appreciate a suggestion how, we've tried free lining which is slightly better. When it's really fishing the Dogs don't get a look in or hide, even had Mackerel taken on the retrieve at the side of the Kayak, reckon a big Rapala would have done, now there's a thought.
  9. Another great report Lofty and more species, did well as the tide pushes along there.
  10. Yep Small Eyed here, nice one Lofty
  11. Always much anticipated, that time again, 4th year at Tywyn for me. Beginning to recognise one or two of the locals and they us, they've even stopped asking if it's the Bass we're after. Arrived very late Tuesday night after hurriedly rearranging work commitments and grovelling with the boss. The wind noticeable from the land down at Dog poo alley, hoped it would ease for the morning. Day 1 Woken by the train, dozed until Lozz phoned around 7:30, they'd all be down by 10:00, launching from the town beach. Stuck my head out of the van, a classic Tywyn morning, blue sky, no wind, ...magic. The Dysinni flat and strangely low considering all the recent rain. Breakfast cleared away and on the water for 8:30, ran the rapid and out onto a flat sea, ...game on! 3 hours on the water at the spot known as
  12. Thanks Matt, yes I'm after using smaller leads hence the braid, Cam has put me right on the brand to use. Did find joining it a straightforward task, not quite as easy as mono but a tiny knot when done.
  13. Begin with an apology to Lofty as did say I'd let him know when next out at Tanners. A very last minute decision to go, really wanted to try a local Turbo mark, it was doable but would have been choppy, tide not ideal, perhaps another night. Did wonder if I'd made the right choice as Tanners was flat. Loads of weed on the shore, together with the odd Cuttle bone. Bait wise had Squid and a couple of hardbacks collected before launch. Have seen part eaten Cuttle drifting around there in past years, so Squid could be good. Launched on dusk, ...after a second trip back up the shore to collect the paddle, been off the water too long. A couple of new items and changes to the way things were done, so this would be a shakedown trip before the Smutts arrived, unless they were already about. Out to 14ft depth, slightly further than usual, on a buoy so easy to move closer-in if weed became an issue, which I fully expected it to be. Flood began, no weed, the dreaded Gorilla pubes negligible all evening . Bites on rod No.1 (the non-braid rod, more later). Nice run down the tide, connected with something, felt like a chequer Bass, all over the place although not strong. Went heavy so presumed I'd collected some weed as well, wound in the last few yards expecting my first Bass of the year, and found a rock of about 1lb attached to the hook! Is it just me, or do others have issues with braid? Rod No.2 with much loved 5500 and 15lb Rovex braid on test. Last year I'd tried 30lb fused Spyderwire, horrible, sounded like it was sawing through the rings, reel felt like there was a half a pound of lead on when there wasn't, back to mono next trip. The Rovex was better, although essentially the same. Then I fluffed a cast/lob and produced a small birdy, the sort of tangle that you'd pull straight out in mono, waisted 20 valuable fishing minutes trying to sort it, before cutting out and joining. Can't be doing with this when the Smutts are about. In the meantime, rod No.1 had caught something, and not another rock. For a fleeting moment thought it was a small Stingray. Nearly 50 years of sea angling and another Spotted ray (I think), barely a month after my first. Bites were frequent thereafter, a few Bream plucks there as well but didn't connect on 3/0, smaller hooks found Dogfish, one bolting quite well and doing a Chequer impression, sadly no Bass or Bream being brought in. And incidentally, not one fish fell to the braid rod, unreal. Off the water before 13:00, a very calm & pleasant evening and a pleasure to be out. Cheers James
  14. Superb!
  15. Thanks all. Hi Charlie, don't carry scales and fish returned, did wonder about the Rockling, it was certainly over a pound, but not two. The Spotty looks bigger than it was, maybe 3lb, neither specimens, but good fish nonetheless.
