Fugazi Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 It was great to see the Hummingbird Side Scan actually working on board a boat at sea. The unit fitted to the demonstration boat was a top of the range model which had a very good screen size enabling multi-screen views of chart plotter and sonar image. Once you get the feel for it the image is very easy to interpret and the detail is incredibly clear, unfortunately, I didn Quote
Rob Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 (edited) It is a sad state of affairs when private fishing boats need such high-tech kit to find fish! If only the money spent on this was put to supporting the AT and getting that Golden Mile. Is this kit the "Pair tralwer" of the small boat world. We will find every last fish hiding place and catch-em? Won't be buying one until there are so many fish that the screen is full of them, give the fish a chance! Rob Edited May 17, 2010 by Rob Quote
Graham Nash Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Would be an ideal tool for a diver tho' Rob, and I know that Gordon is a diver. Quote
Rob Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 I agree, this is not a go at Gordon's post but purely an observation. Anyhow, thought diving was an adventure - shame to see it before you get there, may as well stay dry!!! Quote

From the photo's of some of these side imaging sonar things, the pictures are actually clearer than the eyes view (in the UK) so you might have a point there Rob. Quote
Paul J Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 I did wonder if any fish were seen on this piece of kit Quote
Fugazi Posted May 17, 2010 Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 I did wonder if any fish were seen on this piece of kit No, the side scan didn't seem to show fish, just structure and bottom detail, however, the conventional sonar display on the unit does. Perfect tool for the wreck divers as it would save a lot of time getting orientated before going in the water. Gordon H Quote
