I have a heater and wondered if any members know of an experienced fitter or could do it for me,some of the fitting kit will be required like ducting, exhaust, and vents.I have fuel pump, heating unit, fuel pipe, wiring harness and 7day timer.

I could possibly do it myself but would prefer a more professional fitting.

Just getting ready for winter which may be here sooner than we want

Thanks Nigel

Seriously though if your thinking of DIY then talk to Tony Deavin. He has just fitted one on his boat himself so has a little knowledge....yes I do know that a little knowledge can be dangerous tongue.gif

As Martin states I have recently fitted a heater to my boat

Give me a call on 07733101037 to discuss

I bought the kit from Clive at G&C marine which included wiring loom, fuel pump, switch, exhaust and brackets. He also provided a installation manual.

The most harrowing part is drilling a hole in your perfectly good hull for the exhaust.

With a bit of planning the rest is easy

yep - drilling that hole is a real tough one...... ohmy.gif

I fitted one (D2) to Phaeton and it really does come down to a combination of planning and the key elements of -

how are you going to deal with fuel

good electricity supply

matching the siting of the unit with the vents, ducting and exhaust

things that help include quality hole cutting equipment - if you need one let me know.

if I was to do the job again the only thing I would change is siting the main unit where I could get at it more easily for servicing - so far I haven't ...

there are (or were) 2 ducting sizes and vents to fit - I have a spare vent lying around for beer money, and I certainly have a pretty complete fuel line assembly somewhere.

some of this is in Kent - some in Poole (as ever)

mine can get Phaeton up to 70 deg F from -4 outside in under an hour... blink.gif

Cheers ,but I don't like the sound of drilling the hole in the hull :huh:As the location of the unit I am limited but there is ideal area under the back edge of the cabin which would mean I'd need somebody more agile than me,but fuel and power supply would not be a problem.

Thanks I'll be in touch. Nigel

P.s must get it done as it was a real pain last winter when screen kept freezing, even the small camping heater gas bottles froze

One observation about that hull hole - personally I would rather do it myself (as long as I have the right tools) because I'm happy to invest that extra time to get it absolutely right.

Most professional fitters will, when working professionally for you, compromise at times because hard experience has shown them that telling the client they spent an extra 2 hours on something and expecting to get paid doesn't work!

I have edited my post above as it's a vent not ducting that I have - I was going to fit 3 but went with just 2 in the end (which was fine). I think it's a main vent (directional but not close-able) and you must have one of those in the system.

Nige I have a really good mate who fits these for a living, and I'm sure will be able to find some ducting etc in his van for a drink? I'll try & pm you his number, as he would prefer to keep it discreet! Please let me know if you havent got the pm. I'm sure he'll be happy to help you out even its only for an hour or so to do the difficult bits? Thanks Adam
