Mike Fox Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Am hoping the Frisky Fox will make it, but family commitments might prevent. Out of interest, and in keeping with club traditions of conservation, will all bass caught be in nursery areas be ineligible? Perhaps a little late to raise this, but I haven't seen anything stated. plaicemat Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 I may be wrong Mike but, as I understand it, one is not allowed to purposely fish for bass in the nursery areas. As it is a bass competition, I would have thought the answer is implicit. But, as I said, I may be wrong. Terry. Quote
petesnr Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Have checked the CEFAS site which states you are not allowed to fish for bass from a boat within the bass nursery areas full stop. Therefore if you take part in a bass only competition and fish within the nursery area you are breaking the law. Happy hunting Peter Quote

Adam F Posted September 11, 2010 Author Report Posted September 11, 2010 At the moment, I'll call the comp as ON. Sun is a little window in the weather. Bright and Breezy would be my take on it. Met Office are giving NW 3/4, Windguru and XC both seem to agree. It's not going to be flat calm out there, but I think plenty of areas will be fishable. Take care out there, bear in mind the huge tides we have this weekend, and parts of the day will see wind against tide... some of the tide races we like to fish will be 'lively' to say the least. If it changes I'll post here, if not see you on the water. Quote
great white Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Thanks Adam My lads have other committments, so I have jumped ship for a change. Alfresco will stay on her mooring and I will now be on 50/50 with Stuart and Will Tight lines Charlie Quote

Adam F Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 We too had a sh$te day on JV. The best laid plans and all that. We had a forced late start due to the late LW, pushed alot of tide until we got clear of the headlands, but then encountered the fresh NW'erly.... 20 miles later we were off the back of the IOW, mackeral were hard to find, infact we had 4 between 3 of us in 30 mins... We then started fishing and found over 4 knots of tide at the top of the bank.... so we moved inshore a bit - slightly calmer and less tide but no bass.... so we moved again.... 1pm by this time and weve had about 6 decent drifts, just lots of steaming into the silly tide and going nowhere... .... at 2pm we tried the well known IOW mark, but soon ran out of bait... so of again to find these.... but we couldnt, so back with 2 live baits and shads - 3rd drift we all hook up! HORAY!! ... but 2 fall off, and we get a plump 5lber in the net for Craig.... filled with optimism back up to hook up again... errrr... nope! That was it, so at 4pm I was crabby and fed up so we headed home, having visited pretty much all of the offshore bass marks off the IOW, traveled 55 miles, wasted 70L of diesel and caught 4 mackeral and a bass. Rubbish... infact one of the worst days Ive had out!! Still always next time and all that! Well done to the sensible boys who stayed inshore and caught a few fish! Quote
