Dave Lewis from Sea Angler Magazine out today in the Harbour

Great job Mal & Chris - I look forward to the write up. -
Kodiak's report: I had deer stalking buddy Pete onboard, and as we were locked to Sat with the breezy forecast opted to stay inshore. We fished the Patch for the morning - a little mark I found a few weeks back - a real honey hole, of what I assume are black bream nests - the sounder was wild! A 1lb box of squid was gone in no time and we were only fishing 1 rod each. But whilst it was non-stop action, the stamp of fish was very average. Best fish to me (as only member counting) was 1Lb 12oz. After a few hours of manic fishing the powerboats started up, and we soon found that we were in the middle of the racetrack. Whilst it was pretty cool to see these monsters zooming past at what I assume must have been over 60 knots, it killed the fishing pretty quickly! Pete asked it Kodiak was quick enough to keep up.... I never run her at anything like WOT, but a quick blast proved that 36 knots was still someway short! Plan B was back in the harbour out of the wind after a Gilthead. The plan worked when wind, tide and weed aligned and it was pretty hectic fishing. We had about a dozen gilts, including a new PB for me.... and only 1oz under Charlie's club record.... MAN... do they fight. I think they might just be the hardest fighting fish lb for lb we have. For Charlie's overall catch and release record, black bream - 40 fish caught, 5 retained. Gilthead, 12 caught, 3 retained. My Fish: Black Bream - 1lb 12oz Gilthead Bream - 2lb 12oz

You going again this year or waiting until 2027?

Nice report - thanks for writing it up. Really must get Kodiak over for a trip - she has never been before, and it's been years since Ive been....

Its worth paying to use Ospray Quay IMO. It shaves a good 30 mins of steaming off the trip out and is a cracking slip, it's not crazy expensive, loads of parking and space and a good pub / cafe (the Ship that Rocks) in the marina at the end of the day. It's about 30 mins to the Shambles from Portland Harbour and very fishable in a small trailer boat. Adam

No. Self draining deck on the 175.

Shame the fishing didn't match the weather... I was surprised how early the May water has arrived this year - presumably the unseasonal amount of sunshine has been a factor? The water at Ballard was much much clearer - you could see the bottom in 12' of water. It was good to be out regardless.

Thanks for posting up the report and pics Ian - I don’t seem to be able to find much time anymore to be on here! Anyway it’s good to be back, good to be back fishing after a year off and exciting to have a new toy to play with. JV was great and suited our needs at the time but a floating caravan / fishing boat isn’t needed anymore and the Cheetah is a pure hardcore fast offshore fishing weapon. I really need to learn that when I think ‘ that needs a few weekends work’ it’s usually 6 months! See you all out on the water soon. Adam

Great to be back out for our regular Tues eve trips!

Thanks Gents. Even managed a few hours working on the re-fit on my birthday. Yes, as Rob said, the classic 'only needs a few jobs' has turned into 4 months of every spare leisure hour. Still she will be Franklin standard when finished - hope to launch mid April. I'll see if I can get around to a mini write up on here... but keen to get back fishing after a year off.

Wishing you well Trev - best of luck with the new one!

Well done chaps - enjoy the next few days and keep the reports coming. Nice Brill Steve!

Have a great time gents - bloody gutted I'm not able to come - it's been 4 years since my last trip. I get my 2nd jab tomorrow - so too late. I look forward to hearing the daily catch updates....

JV has a 400L tank so enough to get over fish and get back for a 2/3 day trip. Add in a few Jerry cans for good measure. Id only took to do it this way on an exceptional forecast I might add!

We’ve been down today on a 1.2m tide and had up to 2.6 knots tide so pretty much ideal. I wouldn’t want more than that. We we’re chatting onboard today about the possibility of going to Alderney and no going ashore just staying onboard and being self sufficient for a couple of days?
-
Yes Weymouth is a great plan B - less of a window needed, stay onboard and still some great fishing options. That will be the plan for JV
-
Might be worth looking at accommodation now - you can imagine their being quite an influx after lock-down easing?....

I'll need to book time off work so are we saying 3rd July onward for a trip? I'll book the week off and go when / if a 3 day window allows? It's been years since we did a proper PBSBAC convoy over to Alderney so would be good to get a few boats together - it's the furthest most of us will get this year for a holiday!
