Crossy
Hi folks, I have just bought myself a second hand Merry Fisher 625 and moored it up at cobs. First time out and the plotter dies the death (old Navman thing). I've had a look around and the one which fits the dash best is either the Garmin 750 or the standard horizon cp300. I like the Garmin but a couple of people have raised concerns with touchscreen plotters on boats. Apparently they are hard to operate when the boat is swinging about and obviously not good if you have bait all over your hands.... Has anyone else tried a touchscreen plotter or better still the Garmin 750? Cheers, Andrew
niggle
For the dirty hands reason I personally would not have one or use my iPad as a back up plotter, The standard horizon.......several mates have them and love them, one feature I liked is several arrows showing exact tide direction, great for setting up drifts without really having to think about it Nige

Crossy
Thanks for the replies fellas. I had the cp180 on my last boat and loved it, the only trouble with the SH plotters is the old technology (slow redraw speed) and the fact that they don't work with radar that well. Still, a stand alone radar setup would solve that and a slow redraw rate is not the end of the world. Cheers, Andrew
Graham Nash
I have the Garmin 750s and find it perfect. The touch screen works with ragworm, mackerel or squid (or any combination of the above). No more fiddly than small buttons when swinging or bobbing. I would happily recommend it. Coddy
[snip] Still, a stand alone radar setup would solve that and a slow redraw rate is not the end of the world. Cheers, Andrew The only problem with slow redraw is when it is foggy and you are going slowly especially in the harbour! It can easily mislead you, I know radar helps as does compass heading but it might be worth thinking about if upgrading anyway. Dave
