Paul J Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Im thinking of buying Marineboy a stainless prop for Christmas, any recomendations? The boat is a Boston whaler ( newport) similar to a Montauk with a 60hp Etec on the back. My original 17" prop was repitched to 16" to get the required rev range of 5500 -6000. Paul at southcoast outboards refered me to Steel developments and said a 4 blade prop would be ideal for me. From past experiences i know that getting the right prop is not a simple as it should be and im hoping to get this right the first time What do you guys think? What prop, what size, where to buy? Cheers PJ Quote
mw Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hi pj when I went to a four bladder I kept the same pitch but mine was ali they say you should go a pitch smaller with s steel .it was a lot better lower with no loss on top end I have bought from steel developments they were good on price and delivery only fitted prop last week and the bush is gone mark w Quote
Maverick Martin Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 PJ Tom at prop solutions has served me well in the past Out of curiosity why do you want stainless? I only ask as benefits will be small on a 60hp outboard Martin Quote
great white Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Marks problem can sometimes be the main one with SS props. If they hit something they do not bend easily, so either the bush goes or worse the spline can twist. Bushes can also go due to the additional weight and inertia of the prop. Charlie Quote
