JIMBOB Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) Hi all , we went for the window this morning and so glad we did the sea was like a millpool as we headed out the run and out over to the ledge, we made the right call to not going to the needles due to the worsening forcast ,it was a bit snotty out there come 3pm but it was tempting to move! and i very nearly did at midday after not even a bite! Im glad I didnt tho as All came good and the cod showed, I had 4 with a couple of small ones first, followed buy one of the hardest fighting, longest cod Ive ever caught! well over a metre and on dry land he went 21lbs10oz could have been a much heavier fish, had to be a big old male , long thin, no roe and empty gut, in condtion or female would have been a mid twenty, still my best fish this year, my cod weight PB is not beaten but got to be the longest and what a fight! also managed a 18lber before the swells tripped my anchor and sent us home early, heres to the next window! niggle Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Wow just looked at report a catch and Dan on illusion had a cracking cod of 27lb,well done Quote
JIMBOB Posted December 3, 2011 Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 Thanks for your comments. It is a good year for the cod so many big fish are coming out A lot of boats out there looking tho, its not always that easy, seems to be a handful of boats each day on the fish the rest struggle. Jw2000 peeler and squid would work but peeler seems a little pricey to chuck at the pout and dogs! a decent cod bait would need 6 or so!!, I use squid and cuttle and lots of it! about a 5lb box per rod per day sometimes more! fishing at least 6 on a pennel, the cod arnt really on the ledge you need deeper water its over the back of the ledge. They can turn up anywhere in the bay, its a bit of a waiting game! James Quote
