Matt Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 RIP. They dont just go out on the nice days we have engine problems etc they also go out in absolutely terrible ones. I couldnt do their job so they have my absolute respect (and donation) Quote
diverdave Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 With regard to the RNLI struggling for funding : I would respectfully suggest they stick to their original remit : Saving sailors or Seafarers. Forget the Birmingham Navy and little Billy on his Lilo and Rip Tides and Lifegaurds ? They have over stretched themselves in their own glory ? Beach and inshore issues should be for councils, they take the money !!!!! Anyone who puts to sea should be prepared to DIE. If you cant change a wheel when you get a flat tyre on your car then stay at home PLEASE. The RNLI is NOT that sort of emergency service !! A can of worms with flak to follow :-) DD Quote
Graham Nash Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 I cannot even imagine 60ft seas! Quote
Rob Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Dave, I think the beach lifeguards are partly council funded. Hope you or your family never need them! Rob Quote
Graham Nash Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 So who decides what emergency they attend then Dave?? It could be said that anyone stupid enough to be out there in poor conditions, or in a poorly equiped vessel deserves anything they get ... fortunately thats not the mentality of the RNLI. And I certainly dont go out there "prepared to DIE", I go out there to enjoy a hobby happy with the knowledge that if the worst should happen there is someone out there who will be willing to help (so long as they know of my plight). Graham. Quote
biggcol Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 This post was put up by Coddy to remember the crew of the life boat. Very brave and selfless men who lost their lives trying to save the crew of the stricken coaster. I think it is very disrespectful to highjack this post to start sniping at the RNLI. If you want to voice your thoughts please start your own post. Colin Quote
gjb Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 I hope he never needs them, i hope i never need them but i will pay my monthly support and hope they are allways about graham Quote
codpiece Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) Dave, Bad, bad taste for the time of the year, remember a lot of people in the club or on the forum are, or where, heavily involved with the RNLI.... For the record the investigation concluded the Solomon Browne fouled her screws on rope trailing from the ship, Newlyn, and '' Moushole'' took a long time getting over it. Their ''remit'' is to SAVE LIFE AT SEA, Any life Dave, even yours!!!!!!! My certificate of service says that in my time as Mech/Cox our boat saved 162 lives and I know that a lot of them will have been ''dopey divers'' I can say no more for fear of oversteping the mark. Tight lines all, I am going to find a large tot,, Derek V. Edited December 20, 2011 by codpiece Quote
Matt Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 A terrible tradgedy, those guys heading Into a sea like that willingly to try and preserve life. Heroes all. I know i wouldnt have the bottle. A life saved is a life saved it doesnt matter how or were, also NOONE should be prepared to die every one should take every precaution to ensure they are able to go out safely. All that attitude leads too is increased risk forneveryone trying to preserve it. We should be prepared to take an acceptable risk once we have taken every effort to minimise it. As the above poster i cant reply to a certain post as i feel as it would be rude Quote
fisherman1055 Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Thank you Matt I guess you summed it up for the majority of us!! Tony Quote
