alun j. Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Should have taken my own advice !!! .....but the fun of bassing... and 'One last cast', made me 20 mins later coming back today. That was mistake 1 ; mistake 2 was going too fast [ trying to beat the falling tide] A slight deviation............ and crunch...... bump, bump, bump........ and a limp back in ! Question 1..... Is Propeller Revolution still the place to go to prop repair?? Quetion 2 .... Any suggestions as to a repair to the skeg.......which has lost a chunk off the bottom ?? Cheers, Alun. Quote
Maverick Martin Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Ooooops sorry to hear that Alun, it can and does happen to the best of us The company you need are propeller solutions http://www.propellersolutions.co.uk Talk to Tom on 01258 858784 Propeller Solutions, Unit 18, Bridge Street, Bailie Gate Industrial Estate, Sturminster Marshall, Dorset, BH21 4DB I once had a piece of my skeg go missing on my previous outboard (150hp optimax). Tom then worked for propeller revolutions and did a first class job of welding it up so I guess he would be able to do the same for you. Martin Quote
Paul J Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Regarding skegs Does it matter if theres a slight dink in it? What effect does it have? PJ Quote
niggle Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) Been there, easily done. Nige My skeg looks like it been chewed by a shark........works! Edited January 10, 2012 by niggle Quote
Rob Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Unlucky Al, http://www.saltwater-marine.co.uk/skeg.html Try that if there is enough to attach it to! As for prop, might be cheaper to buy a new non yamaha one. Rob Quote
Wedger Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Alun, Prop Revs will do the whole job. Tell him you are a PBSBAC member and a Christchurch boat and you may get enrolled into the 'not so exclusive club' He is seriously helpful! ATB T Quote
Paul D Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Alun, Propellor revolutions repaired my skeg when I lost two pieces of it in similar circumstances ! They just welded it back and was as if nothing had happened to it. I will see if I can find pics on here Before and After - with dodgy paint job ! Quote
Gazza Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Alun, prop revs are at bailey gate ind estate sturminster marshall.......or where..... PBSBAC get 10% off Gary Quote
duncan Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 it is worthwhile having the skeg - 1. as it was strength wise 2. as it was flow wise 3. as it was steeringwise depending on the nature of the damage this can be achieved professionaly by welding, or with good modern epoxy. Quote

Paul J Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Propeller Solutions at Sturminster Marshall BH21 4DB They just did another fine job on mine, i told them i was from the Christchurch dredging section of PBSBAC and they gave me a discount. Last repair on mine though as it's got too thin, a new one is likely about May time unless very careful and lucky. Now where's that bar shifted to AJ? PJ Quote
Rob Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Now where's that bar shifted to AJ? Sounds like you found it ok Paul! Quote

johnnyb. Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Hi Alun, I did exactly the same thing last year in my old boat, hit that shingle bank on the way in and took lumps out of my prop.We had to sit out there till the tide turned and came in in the dark not much fun. Had a 10" alley prop, found this company who referbished it,Came back like new Quote
