great white Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 The boat should be sent out, scuttled and added to the list of wrecks that fine is a joke Charlie Quote
Stuie Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) And this is the only deterrent to commercial skippers fishing illegally - the skipper will cover the fine many times over with what they catch. We can have all the legislation imaginable but it's useless without enforcement and the skippers know this. Running the risk of being caught must be worth it. Edited February 10, 2012 by Stuie Quote
codpiece Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) Spot on Charlie, Pity the two and a half ringer did not apply the maximum (or maybe he did or was following navy guidelines/instructions) this only sends the message to foreign skippers,''come and help yourselves'' bl@@dy ridiculous, Derek Edited February 11, 2012 by codpiece Quote
Mike Fox Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Taking a different slant on this... If the Angling Trust was aware of this case, what practical actions could they have taken to influence an increased penalty? Mike Quote
Wedger Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 great work HMS Mersey but what a pitiful fine! Disgusting! You park your car on the road without tax and it gets crushed! Perhaps the same principal applied here would command more respect. Quote
codpiece Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) acording to the article the incident took place 74km from the shore, in english near enough to 50mls, if i am wrong i am sorry but i was asleep during metrication, so, question, where does the navy get authority to board and impose a summary penalty in what must be international waters, Hm customs would love to be able to do just that but i believe their limit of ops is 12mls? just interested in the debate, and others opinion or knowledge, derek.
