pegleg
Well the Olympics are here at Portland and i need to get my boat to cobbs quay possibly this saturday. Just wondering how long the trip would take in my Warrior 165 . Would i be right or wrong if i was to plan to get to Poole harbour about 30 mins to an hour before HW at approx 10.30am so to miss the ebb tide against wind at peverill ledge . Or am i completely wrong ? Thanks guys
Brian
They're forcasting 12knt southerly for Saturday, so not a very comfortable or fast trip. Can't you bring it by road?
sparky
Jason, Forecast saturday not looking brilliant for that trip. XC showing 14 SSW with bigger gusts at swanage. Watch the race at St. Albans head.... I rember coming through there when I bought the boat from you, good luck , may see you at cobbs sometime. Leicester Fisheagle
Not sure if you are going on a berth at Cobbs. If it is F pontoon bank side mid to late afternoon should be fine. Around 8pm you will find very liitle water. Not sure what your air draft is, but if there are arches etc. you could do well to check the Bridge Opening times or avoid the high water around midday. If your on the stack or a trailor no probs. If you have to cancel because of the weather and can only make weekends, then the following weekend is when the Olympic Torch comes to Poole. Suspect it could be going over the New Bridge on Friday or Sat. but not absolutely certain as we spotted some "Expect Delays" signs when coming back over the Bridge. Didn't pay too much attention as given the current forcast and the fact that we are probably moving my son next weekend meant that it probably wouldn't bother me. Otherwise, may well see you at Cobbs. Allan.
Brian
Shouldn't be a problem with the bridges, my Warrior 165, with nav arch, goes under ok, I need to lower antenna. Just take note of the lights: 3 Greens = Go (Only shows when bridge is up) 1 Amber over 3 Reds = Proceed with care 3 Reds = Don't go. (Shows when bridge is about to lift and also when on coming vessels have green) Edited July 2, 2012 by Brian
pegleg
Hi guys. I will be dry stacking at cobbs if i can get there before the Olympics officially start. Dont have a trailer to do the road trip so if i cant get to cobbs i will have to leave at Portland for the duration. Mind you i will get 15% discount off my mooring fees for the year though. Cheers

Wedger
Jason, I think Portland to Cobbs will be about 28-30 miles so you will need 2 hours on a good day for a comfortable passage. You can measure a track on google earth. Trev
Wedger
roughly measured 32 miles

fisherman1055
Aim to hit St Aldhems race at high or low water It will be a much more pleasant ride Low water is best as you will then avoid the other 3 races Tony
Matt
Is there an inside passage on st albans race? Looking like a lively trip at the moment!
Rob
Yes there is and it is close in - check you charts but you are talking 50yds from the cliff - it can still be a "surf" though there but potentially better than the main reef if you don't like the surf (i took Serenity though there with Boblin following and took a wave over the bow and roof, excellent those MF695's!). You could always drift it for a bass! Rob
pegleg
Thankyou guys for all your advice. Looks like the weather is not going to play ball before Friday deadline to get out of Portland. Probably will be locking the boat down for the 9 weeks so you will now be guaranteed a good summer. Time to get the old trusty beachcaster out so not so bad.
