which rod?

A friend of mine has given me 40 quid to but the best value new rod for his dad for xmas. between 12 and 20lb class. anyone got any ideas?

 

As its on a budget does anything beat the fladen range?

I have the 12 and 30lb class Fladen rods. The 12lb is a great inshore rod, though some may find the butt a little short. Well built though. Metal fittings all round.

 

I did manage to snap the tip on my 30lb travel rod, but Fladen were fabulous and sent me a replacement free of charge, no questions asked.

 

Others I'd look at are the Shakespeare Ugly Sticks. These a bullet proof with a really tippy action.
