aikidojohn
I have an icom hand held but I would like to get a fixed one for the boat. The rang is better I am told, as I will be going out a mile or two more. This is just the start I have lots more silly things to ask. great white
The power is as you say greater, as is the range because of the increased power and height of the Ariel.
aikidojohn
But what one to go for? I don't have that much money but on the other hand, I want some thing that is not going to let me down. If I was to say £200 but there was one that was so much better for £240. I would have to think is your life worth £40. Do you go for new or second hand?. AJ
Rob
I would go icom, And £140 would get you a good fixed set: http://www.force4.co.uk/5727/Icom-M411-DSC-VHF-fixed-Radio-with-Free-Flush-Mount-Kit-worth--9-95.html R
Maverick Martin
Would agree with Rob Icom are a good make in fact I have had Icom on my last three boats . The model he highlights is what I currently have on AWOL and it works fine with all the bits needed on it. The other factor to bear in mind is their after service which is apparently brilliant but I can't comment on that as have never had to use it Martin
aikidojohn
That's a bit cheaper than I thought. But did I see a discount card for Force 4 on here some where? AJ
Maverick Martin
It's more like a rewards card, you receive 2% of purchase price in vouchers but only in £5 amounts ie need to spend £250 before claiming your first voucher. Hum just checked and the link to discount card that was on the old forum. It must have been lost during the transition from our old forum to the new one. I will try and find a copy and post up later Martin
