Poole canoe

I'm looking to buy a 12ft poole canoe. Does anyone have an idea what size outboard would it need? It's got an 18" transom so would it need a short shaft? I realise it not going to be quick but would use it to fish with a couple of friends.

15" Transom = Short Shaft.

20" Transom = Long Shaft.

 

So at 18" I would go with Long Shaft.

I would suggest a 9hp outboard would be good, I know many would have used the good old Seagull engine but a bit noisy and smokey for these days in the harbour and I suspect it would upset the "enviromentalists" as well
