Outboard serial numbers

I'm looking at a yamaha 50 2 stroke for sale .

The engine number is -50 DETO 6 HP/L/ 509609, where can I check the age of it and find out if it has been stolen?

Best I can come up with is 1983 , ( pretty sure it's correct)
