Brian Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 I'm told the Bournemouth beaches were alive with whitebait and mackerel last night. Quote
Mike Fox Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Not sure about alive....but last weekend saw a small area off Bournemouth Pier "boiling" with mackerel. Not seen it for years, and they vanished as soon as they arrived. Mike Quote
Stuie Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Fished a shore comp at Southborne on Monday evening and it was difficult to cast short enough for the mackerel and later the scad - they were chasing the bait fish right onto the beach and you could see them in the waves just as they broke onto the beach. Needless to say several were caught..... Quote
fisherman1055 Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 I fished have Chesil Beach for over 30 years and regularly used to see whitebait jumping out of the water when a shoal of mackerel(what is that?) went past, some times 5 or 6 shoals would go past in a session. I has been less common more recently as it is unusual to see a shoal of mackerel off there these days I used to pick up the whitebait and take home as an extra bonus Tony Quote
budgie Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 I saw couple of boing spots of fish just off Hengisbury Head last Sunday. They only happened for a few seconds but good to see there maybe some Mackerel out there Quote
gjb Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 As above quite something to see the fish coming to you and yes I have see this over the last 30 to 40 years now that's the bad bit Graham Quote
