Old Charts

I ordered some old charts for Poole Bay / Weymouth / Solent from the following site :-

The ones I ordered were old cancelled ones ( not that old ). ( as I only wanted to plot fishing marks ).

OK Paul - which chart numbers would you recomend - having got them? I struggled with their descriptions a bit without a map!

For starters :-

 

2175 = Poole Bay

2219x = Westerm approaches to Solent

2255 = Approaches to Portland and Weymouth ( but I havent got this one )

2611 - Poole Harbour and Approaches

2615 = Portland to Needles ( havent got this either )

Paul what type of Chart are they?

 

If they ae admiralty charts you can get a list of numbers Duncan

 

Paul just check that they are using the correct Datum, before plotting numbers from them.

If you need a hand plotting from the chart give me a call some time

Regarding datums. They are on OS1936 datum.

 

No despair, I have a handy spreadsheet which converts between this and WGS84 and viceversa and has all sorts of handy conversions.

 

I have sent an e-mail to the author and if he allows, will post this here.

For others, who don't have a personal spreadsheet, this online conversion tool (which was originally a link from Bob F I think) is great to use. I have found it invaluable with coordinates of unknown origion to quickly give me alternative positions to check on my plotter; as well as straight forward conversions.
