lofty
I’m not a twitcher but I do love seeing species of birds. Im in Rome and have seen a bird of prey I can’t recognise and looking for thoughts.About the size of a sparrow hawk. Light from below. Russet red across the shoulders and back. Fan tailed with the end of the tail with a black border. There are also so many other species here it’s wonderful, including green parakeets and hooded crows, etcSo what was my red hawk then? plaicemat
As a regular visitor to Italy, I'm always fascinated by the variety of birds of prey seen there. Your description could fit any number but my guess would be one of the kestrels or any one of the falcons, of which there are several. Any chance of a photo? Terry.
