Steve S Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 I've never had diesel bug on Tigerfish and the filters have always been pretty clean when changing them during the annual service, however, the boat went onto the hard in early Feb and due to the lock down it's still there, that over 3 months and counting and it pretty warm at present. So I'm starting to get concerned about the possibility of diesel bug brewing away, any recommendations? Quote
Ohgreatone Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 I'm no expert but I think it takes a lot longer than 3 months for champignons. Helped a friend sail a yacht from La Rochelle to Poole last year. It had not been used for over 2 years and it had the problem. I think you can get additives or something similar to inhibit. As I said I'm no expert, just my two penneth. Quote
Ohgreatone Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 Just add, an absolute pig to get rid of, his fuel tank is glued in place, and cleaning it has been very difficult, it's still not right. Quote
Rob Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 Careful what you add, I've had my head in a tank due to bug, volvos do not like some additives!R Steve S 1 Quote

stepho Posted May 9, 2020 Report Posted May 9, 2020 hi steve I have a larger boat with a diesel engine the boat is old and when I bought it the guy recommended fuel set and I have had no problems at all with the bug Steve S 1 Quote
sparky Posted May 9, 2020 Report Posted May 9, 2020 I use Fuel Set too, had boat 11 years now with no bug, engine is a Volvo D3 160 , it's good stuff! gjb and Steve S 2 Quote
Mike Fox Posted May 9, 2020 Report Posted May 9, 2020 I've been using biocide on Feisty's diesel since I bought her 4 years ago, and the light "marmite" bug in my first year filters hasn't been seen since. I actually pop a bit more in than recommended, because I typically add 100-120 litres per tank before adding the fuel, and measuring small quantities is fiddly, so I simply add more. It doesn't seem to cause a problem Quote
