great white Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Great Colin I have never seen a sun fish, but I know that they are impressive. Shame that the drift fishing was quiet, how far did you go? and were you targeting the Tope? Can you PM me your results from Sunday as I have all but yours Nicks and Paul J's and I need to send to the BFM Charlie Quote
Paul J Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Amazing sight especially in these waters Charlie, i wasn't fishing the comp, i got a few of hours in between 1pm-4pm but i was stuck in one spot due to engine problems. caught a coule of bream about 2.1/2lb but the weed was getting bad so i decided to limp home. had fuel starvation problems when in gear so i could only get 1/2power and it was a slow ride home. I checked one of the filter screens today in the top carb which was clear but then the heavens opened so i abandoned the mission, i need to check the other one tomorrow. This happened about 6 weeks ago but that cleared itself and has been fine till now. If i find the other sreen is clear tomorrow i cant think what it might be. any ideas? Cheers Paul Quote
plaicemat Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Sun fish are not a new phenomenon in Poole Bay. We used to see them fairly regularly, together with basking shark, 30 years ago. Quote
munterhunter Posted June 28, 2005 Author Report Posted June 28, 2005 charlie I emailed them to your home email, when Im at work tommorrow, Ill PM them to at lunch time. Quote
blueboatdriver Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 When I was a kid we saw one in the East Looe channel and my dad picked it up in the landing net; it must have been about 30lbs. We had a quick look and let it go. Strange looking creatures. I've since seen a couple more, one in the channel and one off of Cape Wrath in the north of Scotland. Quote

Guest fish finger Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Saw loads of sunfish in cornwall. I had a group of 5 swimming around my boat with their fins out of the water like sharks. Quote
Bob F Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Adam and I tried catching one in the landing net off Weymouth last year. It was sunbathing, but everytime we went near it it dived. Wonderful creatures. BF Quote
Newboy Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Is there a club record for sunfish yet..... Quote
