Matt, what type of tester do you mean? A voltmeter to check the voltage??

I will be pottering around Poole Harbour with the wife and kids tomorrow morning, so I could drop by and either lend you my meter for the day or quickly check the battery for you.

Give me a call on my mobile 07802 879073.

cheers

matt have you ascertained if your alternator is working i e what does the dash voltmeter read you have to wait for the engine to reach a certain temp for this as the cats have an inlet manifold heater which causes the voltmeter to show no charge untill the engine reaches about 40 c if the voltmeter reads between 26 and 28 volts after this then the alternator is ok the other cause of knackered batterys is if you have been useing the inverter with out the engine running those things draw about 70 amps when boiling a kettle so at least with the engine running the the batterys are getting something like 60 amps back in without the batterys dont last 5 minutes if you have any questions give me a shout

Thanks for pointing that out.

My fault the filter was set to loose so if unt was in a word it censored that word. Have now altered it and your post.

The censoring is not there for our members as I know most if not all would respect others sensibilities, it is there in case we get visited by those that wouldnt.

Ah, yes, the dreaded battery switch. That's why I have mine wired up so that the engine is always directly connect to the battery. Learned that lesson the hard way when my battery switch failed and I couldn't start the motor.

Glad you sorted it out, Matt. Good luck on the recky to Alderney.
