Bob nudd Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 Evening hi has anyone got the tools to undo duoprop props? That they'd be will to hire/donation It's the pipe one for the nut on 2nd prop i need unless anyone knows another way the leg is 1990 era Any advice welcome Quote
Steve S Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 Well I've got one, you could borrow it, my boat is in Lymington, I keep it on the boat. Honestly I think it's better to buy one, they are not expensive and both props need removing every year to change the oil in the leg so it gets regular use. Note, mine may not be suitable for you, it's for a 2006 DPH drive. Jim 1 Quote
Bob nudd Posted July 13 Author Report Posted July 13 Morning steve thank you for the offer I will buy my own set in the future. My rush is I've been let down on a job next week so I think I'm going to have a go at it tomorrow afternoon and hopefully go fishing rest of the week if I can't russle up some work. Or can I buy a set locally? Any tips or tricks to doing it? Quote
great white Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 As Steve says best to get your own , should be available from a dealer or on line. you will need details of your sterndrive to get the correct one. Like Steve, I also have DPH drive I carry a very short piece of 4 by 2 softwood, to put between the prop blade and cavitation plate, this stops prop turning when undoing or doing up the nuts. 1st Prop [via the prop cone] is a 30mm socket and short extension bar, 2nd one is the Volvo tool and some 3/8 bar to turn it with. Steve S Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 I do the same as Charlie. When refitting make sure the splines are well greased, aids future removal. I apply a little medium strength Loctite on the nuts to save replacing them. If the props are removed every year they should come off no problem, if left you may need to get a mallet on them. Quote

Very good advice Steve. We take ours off every year and grease everything very well. Dan has some horror stories from when he did his apprenticeship with Purbeck Marine. Quote
Bob nudd Posted July 16 Author Report Posted July 16 Hi all props off and changed managed to tap the nut with the lugs on gently with flat ended punch to undo then got stainless tube to make the tool to refit it with. Luckily everything was nicely greased and I could pull props of by hand. Thanks for everyone's help great white, Jim and Steve S 3 Quote
