Zzippy
Hiya. Is there anybody that could please give advice on Fishing the Studland bay area. Speciman and I are thinking of launching from Studland Bay with our Kayaks on Wed or Thursday next week. We would like to Know if there is any good Plaice fishing to be had around the Swash channel area,or try up towards Old Harry Rocks for Bass,Pollack by just trolling lures behind us. Any advice would be gratefully recieved as we havnt fished that area yet. We have fished Poole patch and Durley rocks but have still got to try and Boat a plaice Many Thanks in advance Zzippy(Mark)
Sam
trolling a lure along the training bank would proberly be a good start for the bass or a set of feathers with a pirk on the end. sam
Maverick Martin
For the plaice try around milkmaid bank or drifting along the training bank just out from the rocks, Studland or the channel side according to tides and wind. Studland used to be a good bet for plaice but not so good in recent years Good luck and let us know how you get on Martin
blueboatdriver
Watch out for any birds working in Studland bay and maybe try with a Storm shad if you can't get live eels. There may be some bass.
Zzippy
Thanks for the advice guys We will try lures,Feathers Plugs and popers and see what happens. We will also give it a go with worm for the Plaice just off the training bank then. How far out is the Milkmaid bank.Is it Paddling distance?and are the currents very strong there?.We have chosen Wed or Thursday because we are on neaps and thought the current might be ok for us. Will write a report once we have done the trip.Even if we blank Many thanks. Zzippy

Afishionado
Or even better.Would anybody have a gps cordinate for the Milkmaid bank please If you dont want to post it on the forum you could always message myself or Speciman with it. Thanks Zzippy The whole of Studland bay is basically a flat featureless sandy area. there is a shallow bank running across it from about a quater of the distance to Old Harry to half the distance to Old Harry. Take your starting point as the center of the Shell Bay side of Studland Bay. IMO if someone were to 'seed' the bay with some stone reefs it could become a nice inshore fishing spot. Currents are mostly weak picking up as you aproach the Training bank. At the Training bank it's self the Studland side is about half the depth of the Swash Channel side. Which I s'pose prooves that the Training Bank is doing it's job of keeping the sand in Studland and not filling up the shipping channel. On the Swash side when there is a run of tide used to be a sure fire garfish mark but they seem to be few and far between these days. When I fished from a dinghy years ago I used to catch bass regularly by trailing a Red Gill artificial eel on a long trace and rowing along very close to the line of rocks. Bob F
The highest point of the bank is at N 50 39 596, W 01 56 683. You should be able to see it on any chart. BF

Maverick Martin
We had three plaice in 2 drifts from the number 10 bouy in the swash channel drifting towards the training bank on an ebb tide, approximately 2/3rds across our drift and about 100 yards seaward of the buoy is where the fish came Martin
