Brian
Going to have another go at the flounders in Wareham Channel this evening, I'll let you know how I get on.
Speciman
Hi Brian Good luck for this evening. I was fishing the Wareham Channel and also near the small islands by Holton Heath with Zzippy today. Only managed one flounder but a nice day out nonetheless. Hope to be up there again on the next set of springs.
Brian
We had a nice evening at the edge of Wareham Channel, my son-in-law had a 2lb flounder within 10 mins (18:30), and another the same size later on, I didn't get anything. The good news in the 6 we had on Monday and the 2 he had last night were all in beautiful condition, not a blemish on them.
Bob F
Good to hear there's a few about, Brian.
Swainiac
Brian, Float tackle, or bottom tackle?? Beads/spoons?? Bait?? Peeler or rag?? Ebb or flood?? Thanks <gg> Rich
Brian
Rich Bottom tackle, at anchor and with a small anchor from the stern to stop the boat swinging. Size 1 hooks, no beads or spoons. Monday fished from high water to 2 hours before low, Friday first fish half an hour before low water second fish 2 hours after low. Swainiac
Brian, many thanks, a few of the members use a pole wanged in the mud close in, to stop the tidal swing. I've had good catches up there, using a slow retrieve of a three foot trace, coupled with a fluero red spoon, and red beads. The take is quite aggressive! Other anglers close by, were taking fish on float gear, letting the tide drift the bait over the slopes, towards the channels. Having never caught a flattie like this, I'm reluctant to try it!!! Brian
Rich Tried all the above methods, except the spoon was stainless, had success with all at different times. Had some good catches last year using a float at Shipstal. Also, sometimes drift with a spoon and beads, depends on wind direction and amount of water and what takes our fancy. Swainiac
Many thanks Brian, I may just try a few trips to practice for the flattie comp, if my patience stays with me, I'll try the float. I know Adams Rachael has taken fish on the float over there, so may give it a go. Anything showing around Holes Bay yet, does anyone know?? Deep Sea Dean
Hi Rich, Spoke to a few lads who fished holes bay of the beach over the weekend with no joy. I myself caught one of the beach at rockley last week. Wareham end I think tends to fish better early on with Holes Bay starting a little later. Swainiac
Aren't they generally a better size from there too Dean?? Rich
Deep Sea Dean
yes rich you tend to get the larger fish in Holes Bay but better numbers Wareham way.
blueboatdriver
I think the biggest from there last winter was 5lbs 3oz.
Swainiac
Brian, the best I had last season was 12lb 4oz....................but, that was the total weight of my six!!!!! Rich

Deep Sea Dean
Brian had another one out of the beach at rockley boat park last night. Had loads of other bites but they wern't really having it due to the small tides.
Brian
Friday evening was lovely, weather wise, but the flounders failed to put in an appearance . Loads of crabs and several small bass pinching the bait, still better than watching tv though.
